The American cockroach is an omnivore. He will consider all options for his next meal. Food, feces, and everything in between are great options for a hungry cockroach. It consumes decaying organic matter, but is a scavenger and will eat almost anything.

He prefers sweets, but can also easily eat the following:

• bread;

American cockroaches feed on many types of food, but they show a special love for fermenting material. When outdoors, they tend to eat decaying leaves, fungi, algae, tiny wood particles and small insects. Indoors, they eat crumbs found under appliances, in drains, behind kitchen cabinets and on the floor. They will also eat pet food that is left open to them. Anything that an American cockroach chews or walks on can be contaminated with bacteria. Unfortunately, you may not know that a cockroach was there, so surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and food items should never be left exposed.
