Description, main characteristics

Produced by Russian Akarin. The active substance (avertin) belongs to the chemical class of avermectins. It was originally obtained from the imperfect fungus Streptomyces avermitilis. Currently, it is synthesized chemically, so Akarin cannot be called a biological product.

The concentration of the substance is 2 g/l. The product belongs to insectoacaricides of contact-intestinal action, hazard class - third. Designed for treating plants in open ground, in greenhouses, hotbeds, tunnels, as well as indoors.

Available in powder and concentrated emulsion form. In the Russian Federation, the registration period for the drug expired in 2021, and no extension was forthcoming. Residual batches are on sale, the shelf life of which has not expired - for unopened packages it is 2 years.

On a note! On personal plots, only con. is allowed for use.

Packing:

  • ampoules - 2.4 ml;
  • bottles - 10, 50 ml;
  • bottles - 1 l.

The price of a 4 ml ampoule is 13-15 rubles.

Composition and action

The drug Akarin is an extract from soil fungi - streptomycetes, which have a neurotoxic effect. It is effective both when ingested by an insect along with food, and through external contact.

By interacting with nerve fibers, the new generation drug stimulates the production of aminobutyric acid. It causes negative reactions - it paralyzes the functioning of the main organs, and the immobilized pest quickly dies.

The work of the insecticide can be observed within 2 days after treatment of the plantings. Incidentally surviving individuals do not develop an addiction to the drug. Repeated use of the chemical will be detrimental to them.

Introduction to insecticide

When the owner of a plot of land sees mites, aphids, caterpillars and many other pests on his plantings, he has one desire - to purchase a drug that will simultaneously destroy them all. Less than a century ago, the problem was solved simply: the plants were sprinkled with dust, which destroyed all living things, and then traces of this poison were found even in the blood of Antarctic penguins. Nowadays it is prohibited to use such methods, and gardeners themselves do not want to feed their families vegetables soaked in poison. And when protection is needed for indoor plants, safety comes first. There is “Akarin” and many other insecticides that will destroy plant-eating pests and leave predatory insects alive that will continue to protect the plantings.

When creating the drug, only natural biological material was used - the active substance is obtained from soil fungi that produce neurotoxins. The hotter the weather, the more dangerous the insecticide is for mites, aphids and caterpillars. With plant particles, pests ingest poison that affects the nervous system, and are deprived of the ability to move and eat food. Some individuals will die in two days, and on the fifth day there will be a mass death of parasites. Surviving insects will not acquire resistance and will die during subsequent treatments. The drug has a double effect: it destroys the pest both when it comes into contact with it and when the insect eats the poisoned parts of the plants.

Advice

In unkempt areas, the effectiveness of the drug is reduced: weeds interfere with spraying the plants from all sides, and the spray does not get inside the leaves curled from aphids. Weed the area, trim off damaged shoots, and then begin processing.

The well-known popularizer of agricultural knowledge N.I. Kurdyumov notes the following advantages of the Akarin insecticide.

  1. Does not cause addiction to ticks, aphids and other pests.
  2. Decomposes quickly: 2 days after treatment, a tomato or apple can be eaten.
  3. An effective drug made from natural raw materials with a long shelf life.
  4. A product that works on almost all pests.
  5. Harmless to predatory insects that feed on pests.
  6. The heat only enhances the effectiveness of the drug.
  7. There is no need to spray the plants abundantly; it is enough to lightly moisten the leaves with fine sprays - saving on the working solution.
  8. "Akarin" can be mixed with growth stimulants and fertilizers - in one treatment you will do 3 operations.

On the packaging you can find the abbreviation “CE”, which stands for “emulsion concentrate”. The drug cannot be used to treat plants directly from ampoules; you need to prepare a working solution. The amount of insecticide per liter of water depends on the type of pest: one concentration for spider mites, another for aphids. "Akarin" can be mixed with other protective and stimulating agents if they do not have an alkaline reaction.

EC "Akarin" is packaged in ampoules of 2, 4 and 5 ml; when closed, it does not lose its properties for 2 years. No special storage conditions are required; temperatures are allowed from -15⁰ to +30⁰. Place the drug where children and pets cannot find it, and do not store it near food or medicine. If you use Akarin correctly, the costs will not be so high: for a 4 ml ampoule you will spend from 13 to 18 rubles - damage from pests will cost more.

Advantages and disadvantages

A biologically active insecticide is used not only for pest control, but also for preventive purposes. This allows you to reduce the risk of insect invasion in summer cottages, fields, and garden plantings. The drug has other advantages:

  • does not harm the treated crops and decomposes quickly - ripe fruits can be eaten a few days after spraying;
  • has a selective effect - harmless to predatory insects that destroy pests;
  • does not affect individual individuals, but eliminates the entire population of the species;
  • the drug is effective even at high temperatures;
  • economical - to obtain a positive result, only small splashes of the working solution on the plants are enough.

Akarin destroys mites, aphids, harmful butterflies, and ants. Helps cope with nematodes parasitic in the soil. The drug is relatively harmless to earthworms.

Minuses

The universal remedy also has negative aspects that are worth paying attention to:

  • Akarin is a highly toxic drug;
  • dangerous for bees, so it is not recommended to spray near apiaries;
  • can provoke an allergic reaction in a person working with the substance;
  • washed off from plants by rain and irrigation water;
  • does not affect pest eggs, so after some time additional treatment will be required.

Akarin has a short period of action, which is also a disadvantage. But in the case when crops with frequent fruit harvesting are sprayed with the solution, this point can be considered a plus.

Reviews

Grigory: I am an experienced gardener, so I start fighting pests in my garden beds in early spring. Of all the drugs I have used before, I was most impressed by Akarin - a powerful but inexpensive insectoacaricide, which is also very economical in use. When processing, it is important not to forget about protective equipment - a mask, goggles, gloves and clothing.

Marina: Akarin is, in my opinion, the most successful preparation of biological insecticides. It turned out that one ampoule was enough for me to preventively treat not only plants, but also the soil at my dacha. There is no harm from it to people or animals, but if you have allergies, there may be problems, so you need to test the drug first.

Rimma: Akarin is an excellent combination of price and quality: inexpensive, but very effective. There is too much fuss with folk remedies, because they do not destroy, but at best only scare away pests that do not disappear anywhere, only move from one crop to another. Akarin performs its task radically: there are no beetles on potatoes, no mites on currants. And the aphids are gone. However, we must not forget about precautions.

Tatyana: Akarin acts very quickly: as soon as she sprayed the roses with it, the aphids immediately froze. Then for several days I removed it from the bushes with rags and brushes. Since the product is produced in our country, it is not in short supply, and its price is reasonable. Treatment with Akarin did not affect flowering: the buds appeared in due time.

Katerina: carried out aphid prevention and was surprised to find dead spider mites. Here is what Akarin means: both against insects and arachnids. And, by the way, I worked without a respirator. Well, it just happened by accident, I won’t do it again next time, I just had already prepared the solution, and suddenly it turned out that I had touched my mask somewhere. Of course, Akarin has a strong smell, but there were no consequences.

Instructions for use

Spray crops in sunny, not rainy, no wind weather. The hotter it is outside, the more active the effect of the drug.

The solution is prepared immediately before treatment, according to the instructions for use of Akarin, and used within 60 minutes. Therefore, it is not worth diluting the drug with a reserve.

To begin with, the ampoule is dissolved with a small amount of water. Then it is added to the required volume, which is selected individually for each crop being treated, taking into account the existing parasite. When spraying crops, it is recommended to take into account the proportions indicated in the table below.

To achieve better results, it is recommended to use a unit with a fine spray for spraying. This will allow the treated surfaces of shoots and foliage to be moistened more evenly.

For indoor plants

Akarin can also be used to protect home flowers. In this case, a 5 ml ampoule is dissolved in 0.5 liters of water. This is enough to spray all indoor plants. An ordinary household spray bottle is suitable for spraying the working fluid.

Treatment should not be carried out indoors. Flower pots are taken out to the loggia (balcony) or to the yard. If possible, it is better to leave the plants there for a couple of days. After 2 days, the procedure is repeated, trying to get the working solution onto the ground.

Features of the product

The drug "Akarin", instructions for use of which are presented below, is one of the few products with a wide spectrum of action (in open and closed ground) directed against most pests.

According to many experts, the drug in question has a detrimental effect on the Colorado potato beetle, herbivorous mites, leaf-eating coleoptera, open-sitting aphids, sawfly and lepidopteran larvae, thrips, as well as some mining pests.

It should also be said that this product is effective against a number of root-knot nematodes living in protected soil.

Compatibility

Akarin combines well with other insecticides. Therefore, you can safely add growth stimulants, fertilizers and all kinds of microelements to the working composition. This will provide the crops with additional protection, increase plant immunity and feed them.

The surfactant components added to the preparation will make the solution effective against small rodents, as well as sucking parasites living in the soil.

If you add a little insecticidal (or laundry) soap to Akarin, this will help the drops of the working solution stick to the foliage and linger for a longer time.

  • to avoid contact of the insecticide with the skin, a special protective suit made of thick fabric is required;
  • Rubber gloves with high cuffs are put on your hands;
  • shoes must be closed type (shoes, boots), over which shoe covers are worn;
  • It is recommended to protect the mucous membrane of the eyes with glasses;
  • Do not neglect a respirator or mask - this will prevent vapors and drops of liquid from entering the respiratory tract.

Pros and cons of using

Speaking about the positive and negative aspects of using Akarin on a plot of land, many farmers compare it with other drugs of this class.

Most of the advantages, of course, are similar to other protective equipment. What then makes Akarin different? What distinguishes from the total mass of funds for agriculture? Let's compare the characteristics and properties of the insecticide, highlighting only the differences:

  1. Great for indoor plants and flowers.
  2. If you use it at home, you don’t have to worry about parasites getting used to Akarin.
  3. Eliminates most parasitic insects. Recommended for use against caterpillars.
  4. It copes with its tasks perfectly even in extreme heat.
  5. Works selectively. Low consumption.

pest control agent

Of the negative aspects, only two problems stand out. But the same disadvantages exist in 75% of insecticides:

  1. Not used during flowering, as it has been found to be highly toxic to honey plants.
  2. It poses a threat to birds, earthworms and fish.

First aid

No matter how well safety precautions are followed, exposure to the chemical may occur. To avoid serious health problems, the victim will need emergency care. You must immediately call a doctor, and before he arrives, act in the following way:

  • if the drug gets on the body, carefully remove it with cotton wool or a dry cloth;
  • the victim who has inhaled the vapors is taken out into the fresh air (when the work was carried out in a greenhouse or other enclosed space);
  • if Akarin gets into the eyes, rinse them with cool water for 25-30 minutes;
  • if the concentrate accidentally enters the body, the victim should take activated charcoal (1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight) with plenty of water; this will help induce vomiting.

If the specified measures are not taken in a timely manner, the victim will receive severe poisoning. Akarin can also cause an allergic reaction. In this case, you should take an antihistamine (Suprastin, Tavegil, Diazolin, etc.).

Storage conditions and expiration dates

Concentrated emulsion Akarin retains its properties for 2 years from the date of manufacture. Therefore, summer residents often buy the drug with a reserve.

Due to the toxicity of the concentrate, it is necessary to create suitable preservation conditions for it.

  1. Places are selected that are as inaccessible as possible to children and pets.
  2. Store Akarin in utility rooms, away from food, sources of water and sunlight.
  3. The shelf on which the drug will be kept should be located at a considerable height from the floor.

Packages containing Akarin should not be piled with other items. This can lead to destruction of the packaging vessels and leakage of dangerous toxin.

Some safety precautions when working with the drug

Akarin belongs to the third danger class. It does not pose a threat to beneficial insects and does not cause harm. But for all its undeniable advantages, this is a chemical substance and care should be taken during use.

The treatment is carried out in protective clothing, rubber gloves, and goggles. You should not be distracted or talk while spraying. If the solution gets on the skin, the damaged areas should be thoroughly washed with running water and soap.

After the event, the sprayer is washed well in clean water, gloves are not removed from the hands, treated with a soda solution, only after that all protective attributes are removed. Next, used clothing items are disinfected.

Store Akarin, like all chemicals, out of the reach of children and animals. Protect from fire and direct sunlight. The permissible storage temperature varies from fifteen degrees minus to thirty degrees plus.

Under no circumstances should the product be stored near food, medicines, or animal feed.
