Fitoverm: instructions for use, reviews, how to dilute

Everyone knows that orchids are very fastidious plants. In addition to certain maintenance conditions (temperature, humidity, fertilizer and watering), you need to carefully ensure that the leaves or roots are not affected by various pests .

It is for these purposes that it is recommended to use the drug Fitoverm. It is toxic, so it requires the housewife to be careful when using it. How to properly dilute the drug and water an orchid? This and much more will be discussed in our article.

Description Fitoverma for orchids

Fitoverm belongs to the biologically active preparations of the insectoacaridic group. Shows high effectiveness in controlling pests of indoor plants (aphids, mites, etc.).

The main component is the substance aversectin (a natural extract from the fungus of the genus Stereptomyces avermitilis) at a concentration of 2 g/l. It causes paralysis of the pest and leads to its rapid death.

The mechanism of action is based on two forms of poison :

  • contact . In this case, upon contact with the surface of the parasite, its death occurs;
  • intestinal _ The poison penetrates the internal organs and destroys the body.

Important! It does not have any toxicity to the plant, but for humans it is classified as class 3 toxic substances . The effect occurs in a short time (up to 3-5 days). It must be diluted strictly according to the attached instructions.

Release forms

Fitoverm has several forms of release: ampoules (2-5 ml) and bottles of 20 ml. Produced by the famous Russian company. It is best to purchase the drug in the required quantity, since open bottles or ampoules cannot be stored for a long time .

Spectrum of action

Used to treat indoor plants, vegetables, fruits and other garden crops . Fights pests such as aphids, mites, thrips, caterpillars, leaf rollers and other insects.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages are:

  • effect in a short time (the death of parasites begins a few hours after treatment, after 3-5 days they completely disappear);
  • low toxicity;
  • maintaining efficiency even in the hot season;
  • there is no addiction of parasites to the components of the drug;
  • quickly decomposes in soil or water.

Among the disadvantages, flower growers highlight high cost and incompatibility with other drugs.

Mechanism of action

According to the method of penetration, Fitoverm is a contact-intestinal pesticide (insectoacaricide). Entering the body of an insect pest through the outer integument when spraying or after eating treated leaves, the substance affects the receptors of the nervous system, causing paralysis and subsequent death.

The speed of action of the drug is that 8-10 hours after treatment, the pests stop feeding, and die after 3-6 days.

The period of protective action of the drug is up to 20 days, depending on the number of pests and climatic conditions. Treatment intervals depend on air temperature. Considering the lack of resistance (addiction), Fitoverm can be used repeatedly, including for several years in a row.

Instructions for use of the drug

Before using this drug, be sure to carefully read the instructions and determine the required amount of solution so as not to harm the orchid. At the first signs of the presence of parasites, it is recommended to begin treatment immediately .

It is prohibited to use containers in which food will be prepared in the future for dilution. It is best to use disposable gloves ; after dilution, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands and face with soap . It is not recommended to inhale toxic vapors after opening the ampoule.

Below we will describe how to dilute the drug to combat different types of pests:

  • in the case of aphids, you will need 1 ampoule per 600 ml of water ;
  • spider mite infestation, of liquid;
  • when infected with thrips, the contents of 1 ampoule are diluted in half a liter of water.

are mainly treated with a frequency of at least 4 times per knock . The duration of the procedure is about 10 days (depending on the degree of pest damage).

Methods of use

Orchids are often infected with thrips that live on the flowers of the plant. In this case, Fitoverm will be ineffective . Since it is a toxic substance, processing the buds is strictly prohibited . If the roots or roots are affected by mites and aphids, then this drug is simply irreplaceable .

The processing procedure is as follows:

  • the plant is removed from a plastic container, which is subsequently treated with disinfectant solutions. It is best to then place it in a new pot, this guarantees a complete absence of pests;
  • to treat the roots, they must be thoroughly cleaned of substrate residues and placed in a Fitoverm solution, which is prepared in a proportion of 1 g of the drug per 1000 ml;
  • After this, the root system needs to be thoroughly dried . At the same time, it is very important not to dry them out; it is recommended to moisten them periodically;
  • repeat treatment after 7-10 days.

Attention ! After planting in a new container, you will need to carry out this procedure 2 more times . It is best to add the solution directly to the substrate, and not to the leaves (in this case, it may harm the orchid).

If a plant is damaged by thrips, dilution is recommended based on the proportion of 2 ml of Fitoverm per 0.2 liters of water .

Compatibility with other drugs and fertilizers

How to use the drug together with others? It can be used together with some pyrethroid and insecticidal drugs and fertilizers (Zircon, Epin, etc.). It is very important to ensure that sediment flakes do not form in the mixed suspension . In this case, the use of such a solution is strictly prohibited.

Precautionary measures

Despite the fact that Fitoverm is a natural preparation, it must be used in the correct proportions, otherwise an overdose will lead to the death of the orchid. To prepare the solution, it is recommended to use boiled and filtered water at room temperature .

You cannot store the finished suspension ; the next day it will simply be ineffective. Therefore, it is recommended to use a freshly prepared solution.

Is it possible and how to treat a blooming orchid with Fitoverm?

It is not recommended to treat the plant at the flowering stage. This will not bring any effect, and on the contrary, it can only do harm.
It is best to spray leaves, peduncles and treat the roots with substrate.

Purpose of the drug Fitoverm

The IV generation systemic drug Fitoverm is of biological origin and is both an insecticide and an acaricide. Its effect extends to 20 species of insects:

  • Colorado potato beetle;
  • aphids of all kinds;
  • caterpillars;
  • leaf roller;
  • mealybugs;
  • thrips;
  • codling moth;
  • scoop;
  • various harmful butterflies, moths.

Fitoverm destroys spider mites and other mites that parasitize plants. It is very difficult to remove these arthropods from the site.

In the first case, the insecticidal effect of the drug is manifested, in the second - acaricidal.

The use of Fitoverm is possible on any garden, vegetable, ornamental, and indoor plants. Usually next to the name there is the abbreviation EC, indicating that the drug is an emulsion concentrate. There are several varieties of it:

All drugs, except the last one, are produced in the form of an emulsion concentrate (EC):

  • the most common packaging is 2 ml ampoules, sometimes 4 and 5 ml;
  • bottles with a capacity of up to 400 ml;
  • For farms and agricultural enterprises, 5 liter canisters are recommended.

Reviews

In general, people who have used this drug leave positive reviews. Below are a few of them.

Natalya, 34 years old, Perm : “I have a huge collection of orchids. I recently noticed a spider mite on one of them, but at first I didn’t attach much importance to it. The very next day the affected area increased and then I decided to purchase an effective drug. The store recommended Fitoverm. I diluted it according to the instructions, and after a week there was not a trace left of the pests .”

Tatyana, 31 years old, Kazan: “Aphids attacked my orchids. I sprayed the plant with Fitoverm solution, but did not notice any special changes. Later I read on the forums that you need to add a little solution to the soil, this will completely kill the pests .”

Nadezhda, 45 years old, Moscow: “I noticed small transparent droplets on the leaves of Phalaenopsis. The store told me it could be caused by spider mites or aphids. We recommended Fitoverm. It's quite expensive, but I still decided to try it. I processed the leaves, peduncle, roots and substrate. After just 3 days, all signs of the presence of pests disappeared .”

Polina, 23 years old, Vladimir: “I treated my Phalaenopsis with Fitoverm against oribatid mites. But she didn’t take into account the fact that the drug only kills adults. I did a few waterings , and then over time I discovered new hordes of pests. I had to treat the orchid again, this time with a long course, to kill the eggs and larvae .”

How to properly process crops and plants?

It is necessary to prepare a working solution before processing crops. The drug must be diluted in a container that is not intended for cooking. After use, wash the container thoroughly. Experts recommend using disposable containers to dilute the drug and choosing suitable weather for spraying.

Treatment is not carried out on rainy days or at high air humidity. The optimal air temperature level is from 25 to 34 degrees Celsius. It is best to spray plants using a spray bottle. During operation, it is necessary to control the uniform distribution of the product. This treatment can be carried out on abundantly vegetating plants.

The leaves of indoor plants should be thoroughly wiped with the prepared solution on each side. If the product is not completely used up, the remains can be poured onto the soil in the pot. This is due to the fact that when spraying the solution indoors, vapors or splashes may enter the lungs. Fitoverm should be used at least four times, with a break of 7-8 days.

Treatment of indoor plants

The drug Fitoverm is widely used for treating indoor plants. This product does not have a pronounced or pungent odor, so it can be sprayed indoors. Manufacturers also took care of convenient packaging - these are single ampoules with a volume of 2 ml. They are suitable for processing at any time of the year.

Spraying orchids

This is a unique plant that is famous for its beauty and unusualness. Most often, the flower is located on windowsills, and insect pests actively settle on the roots and leaves. The orchid must be treated against thrips, nematodes, mites, mealybugs , and scale insects. To obtain the finished solution, take 2 ml of the product and 50 ml of water.

There are situations when pests settle in the root part, so to destroy them, the flower and pot are immersed in water at room temperature for 30 minutes. Adults float to the surface quickly, so they must be collected and destroyed. Next, the plant is dried, pulled out of the pot and treated with the drug.

If pests live on the leaves and stems of the orchid, then they need to be washed every day for a week with the prepared solution. In case of repeated pest infestation, the treatment is repeated.

How to dilute correctly and consumption rates

To dilute the drug, take a 10-liter bucket, fill it halfway with water and pour out the Fitoverm ampoule. The solution must be thoroughly mixed and water added to the required volume. When processing indoor plants, the following rules must be observed:

  • To get rid of spider mites, take 2 ml of the product and dilute it in 0.5 liters. water;
  • destruction of aphids and trips - 5 ml per 0.6 liters of water;
  • after 7-8 days, the indoor plants are re-treated.

If pests reappear or show signs of life after spraying, then it is necessary to change the product and treat the damaged plants. It is important to note that each ampoule comes with detailed instructions for diluting and using the drug. Recommended dosages for dilution were obtained experimentally, so these recommendations should be strictly adhered to.
