Video about the Taboo product

The insecticide Tabu is used to treat potato tubers before planting, and is also added to planting holes or trenches when planting planting material.

.

When liquid Taboo gets on the potatoes, it immediately begins to harden, and a thin reddish film forms on the skin of the potatoes, which does not crumble even after planting. Pests feeding on tops or tubers die within 24 hours

– first they “lose” their appetite, then they stop moving, and as a result they die.

Description of the drug

Tabu is a modern potato disinfectant from a large Russian company, which is a leader in the production of pesticides for agriculture. The main purpose of Taboo is to combat all kinds of potato pests, which include:

  • Colorado potato beetle and its larvae;
  • wireworm;
  • bread ground beetle;
  • flea beetles;
  • leafhoppers;
  • cereal aphid;
  • winter armyworm and others.

Moreover, to protect against all these insects, potatoes need to be treated with this preparation only once. Such a one-time treatment is more than enough to protect potato bushes during the initial, most sensitive stage of growth.

Chemical composition

In its chemical composition, Tabu is very similar to another popular disinfectant - the foreign drug Prestige. Despite the similarity of compositions, these disinfectants are not analogues, but can be used together. The main active ingredient of these drugs for protecting potato tubers is imidacloprid. It is part of the neonicotinoid class of insecticides.

In Tabu, the concentration of imidacloprid will be 500 grams per liter. This concentration of the active substance is moderately toxic for humans, but it will be destructive for insects. Once in the body of an insect, imidacloprid blocks its nerve receptors, causing severe paralysis and further death.

Important! Imidacloprid may have negative effects on children. The children's nervous system has not yet reached full maturity, so imidacloprid can negatively affect it, reducing neuronal activity.

In order to avoid such an effect, processing potatoes with this or other products containing imidacloprid should be carried out without the participation of children.

In addition to imidacloprid, the Tabu disinfectant contains the following substances:

  • antifreeze;
  • dispersants;
  • adhesive;
  • thickener;
  • wetting agent;
  • dye.

Mechanism of action

The taboo begins to act within 24 hours from the moment of treatment. Moreover, its activity period lasts 45–50 days. During the treatment of tubers, the insecticides included in its composition are absorbed into the potatoes. Moreover, due to the presence of a dye in the preparation, the treated tubers turn pink.

After the potatoes are planted and germinate, the active substances penetrate the young shoots of the tubers through the vegetative system. When insects attack these shoots or their underground part, insecticides enter their body. There they have a neurotropic effect on the insect’s nervous system. 24 hours after this, paralysis of the main organs of the pest occurs, causing its death.

Release form and packaging volumes

The insecticidal disinfectant Tabu is available in the form of a water-suspension concentrate. This greatly simplifies its use. After all, such a solution mixes extremely quickly with water.

As for the volume of packaging of the drug, you can choose from two options:

  • bottle with a capacity of 1 liter;
  • canister with a capacity of 10 liters.

Benefits of Taboo VSK

This insecticide is highly effective - it is enough to treat the planting material once before planting in the beds

. It is not washed away by watering and rain, and the effectiveness of Taboo is not affected by a sharp change in air temperature. When preparing the solution, the drug does not generate dust; it dissolves completely in water, without sediment. One Tabu ampoule (10 ml) is enough to prepare a solution for treating more than 120 kg of tubers.

For large farms, it is more profitable to purchase this insecticide packaged in canisters with a capacity of 1 and 5 liters.

This drug protects potato plantings for a month from the moment of germination of planting material (but not more than 1.5 months). The drug is contained in the cellular tissues of leaves and stems for 2 months, then removed from the plants. Tabu is not toxic if the dosage and rules for its use when processing potatoes are followed.

Important!

You should not treat planting material of those potato varieties with this chemical preparation whose tuber ripening period does not exceed 2 months from the moment the sprouts appear.

In this case, the active substances included in Taboo do not have time to be removed from the tubers and can cause poisoning of the human body.

general information

Taboo has a large list of positive properties, which explains its popularity among consumers :

  • protects potatoes from the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm, cicadas and many types of aphids that eat the tops and spoil the tubers, thereby reducing the normal process of their development;
  • for quite a long time does not lose its properties (valid for at least 45 days from the moment of spraying), which is very important for tubers during the period of their germination;
  • using the described drug, it will be possible to reduce financial costs, because the need to purchase additional means of protection against pests disappears;
  • is capable of destroying beetles that, in the process of their development, have over time already developed resistance to products whose main active ingredient is carbofuran ;
  • does not cause addiction to the Colorado potato beetle, so it will also be effective next year;
  • monitors the development of harmful aphids on vegetables, which are carriers of various infectious diseases;
  • thanks to the special dye included in its composition, using the Tabu preparation becomes even easier and more convenient, because this allows you to visually control the uniformity of application of the protective agent to all root vegetables;
  • perfectly protects tubers regardless of weather conditions (effective both in the heat and during periods of heavy rain);
  • Potatoes treated in this way become dangerous for insects, since in the process of eating tubers or sprouts, Colorado potato beetles and wireworms die within a day.

Grown potatoes, sprayed with the remedy for the Colorado potato beetle Tabu in a strictly specified proportion, are absolutely safe for human health, animals, birds and earthworms.

Despite all the positive properties of the drug, it is also necessary to mention some of its disadvantages :

  • Taboo should be stored only in sealed packaging away from children;
  • the spraying process must be carried out wearing a respirator and gloves , since you need to remember that the work is carried out with poison;
  • Using this remedy, after 3-4 years, you will need to replace it with another drug for the Colorado potato beetle, so as not to cause addiction in the insect.

It is strictly prohibited to spray tubers of early potato varieties, as well as tops, since the chemical substances included in the composition may not have time to be released from them into the environment.

Taboo from the Colorado potato beetle - instructions for use of the product

The main convenience of this drug is that when processing potato tubers you can immediately see which of them have already been Taboo applied.

. The skin of the processed potatoes immediately turns reddish. You can process planting material directly in the holes, while simultaneously protecting the tubers and soil.

To treat this vegetable crop with the drug Tabu against the Colorado potato beetle, 16 ml of insecticide is required for every 2 liters of water

. In this case, the planting material is processed immediately before planting. 2 liters of the prepared solution is enough to process 200 kg of potatoes. Processing is carried out once.

Directions for use according to instructions

The process of treating potatoes with the “Taboo” solution to eliminate the Colorado potato beetle on the shoots differs little from working with the well-known “Prestige” product, but the developers have added components to the composition that provide additional significant convenience. Now, when sprayed, the tubers are painted in a reddish tint so that the already treated area is visually visible.

Potatoes before and after treatment with Tabu

When drying, the preparation envelops each tuber, covering it with the thinnest film, which does not crack or crumble when transporting root crops to the planting site, which is what distinguishes the product for protecting against the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm “Taboo” from its famous analogue “Prestige”.

The attached instructions allow you to treat harvested potatoes with Taboo before planting both in the traditional way and when planting directly in the holes, spraying them together with the tubers.

Instructions for use of the “Taboo” product

Method No. 1 - treatment before planting

This traditional method of treating potato preplant material is reminiscent of working with the Prestige product, and has already been loved by many gardeners because of its simplicity, safety and high efficiency. And the instructions for use for this method differ little between them, only the dosage differs, and the process itself is similar.

To treat the Colorado potato beetle with Tabu, according to the instructions, you need to dilute it in water to obtain an active liquid for spraying potatoes selected for planting.

  • To do this, you need to mix 8 ml of the drug and a liter of water, first in a small volume of water, about a glass, shake, and only then add the rest of the water. This amount of solution is designed to wet 100 kg of tubers.
  • Therefore, if more tubers are planted, then you need to make the appropriate calculation to maintain the dosage: divide the existing weight of the tubers by 100 to get the required volume of water, and then multiply by 8 to get the required amount of the drug.
  • Before wetting the root crops, the solution poured into the sprayer is thoroughly shaken again.
  • The tubers are laid out horizontally and evenly in a row on a tarpaulin or film covering, sprayed with the prepared solution, then carefully mixed by hand.
  • Controlling the degree of coverage with the solution will ensure that the treated area of the root crops turns red.
  • Once the tubers are dry, they can be planted in the ground.
  • Important! Unlike the drug "Prestige", "Tabu" does not have fungicidal properties, that is, it is powerless to eliminate the harm from fungal infections. Therefore, simultaneous treatment with some fungicides is allowed at this stage.

    Method No. 2 - treatment during disembarkation

    One important quality that is superior to “Prestige” is the ability to spray potato tubers already planted in the hole at the time of planting. The new proposed technology eliminates the process of preliminary dressing of planting material and significantly frees up time, making the work of vegetable growers easier, unlike the “Prestige” drug, but it protects no worse from the Colorado potato beetle and wireworms.

  • To do this, the Tabu product, according to the instructions for use, is diluted with water to obtain a pollinating liquid.
  • In a prepared container, prepare a solution using 4 ml of Tabu per 10 liters of water, which is enough to spray dug holes or furrows along with the tubers placed in them over an area equal to 1 sq.m.
  • First, the emulsion is diluted in a liter of water, shaken thoroughly, and then the remaining water is added, bringing it to the required amount.
  • Accordingly, if 2 acres are planted under potatoes, then 8 ml of Tabu diluted in 20 liters of water will be used, if 1.5 acres - then 6 ml of the drug and 15 liters of water.
  • That is, the area in acres allocated for potatoes must be multiplied by 4 to calculate the required amount of the drug, and then the number of acres allocated to 10 to find out the required volume of water.
  • Then everything is simple: planting potato tubers are placed in a furrow or hole, sprayed with a solution, approximately 30 - 35 ml per tuber, and buried, neutralizing damage from beetles and wireworms for 60 days from the date of this type of treatment.
  • Important! With this method, there is no need to increase the concentration; it is quite enough to preserve the harvest! Otherwise, damage to the soil from toxins may increase!

    Precautionary measures

    This drug is quite toxic, therefore, from the moment the solution is prepared until the end of processing and planting of the tubers, certain precautions must be observed:

    • containers in which the drug is diluted must be disposable. After use, they should be destroyed or thrown away;
    • from the moment of preparing the solution until the end of processing, you should be in a protective suit, protect your nose and mouth with a respirator or gauze bandage, and put on rubberized gloves on your hands;
    • During treatment, it is prohibited to eat, drink and smoke;
    • Upon completion of work, you should take a bath and rinse your mouth with water.

    Toxicity

    Tabu belongs to the third class of toxicity. When preparing the solution and processing potatoes with it, you need to wear rubber gloves and a respirator (or gauze bandage).

    The taboo from the Colorado potato beetle can be harmful to humans only if it enters the body, for example it can cause the following negative consequences:

    • provokes changes in liver size;
    • weight loss;
    • lethargy;
    • the desire to drink water disappears;
    • a staggering gait occurs;
    • problems with normal breathing;
    • swelling of the eyes;
    • leg and arm cramps.

    When processing late potato varieties, Tabu is completely safe for human life, because within two months it is completely removed from the root crop into the environment.

    Which product is better Prestige or Taboo

    Tabu is a relatively new insecticidal drug, so many vegetable growers do not dare to use it to combat wireworms and Colorado potato beetles in potato beds, preferring to use “Prestige” for these purposes.

    When comparing these insecticides, the following should be noted:

    • the period of protection for potatoes with Prestige is 37 days, and for another substance – 1.5 months;
    • Tabu is also used for soil treatment, unlike in “Prestige”;
    • Prestige can be used to control pests and diseases, unlike Taboo;
    • Potatoes treated with Prestige grow better and faster.

    Drug Taboo for the Colorado potato beetle - reviews of those who have used the product

    Olga, 50 years old, Nizhny Novgorod: Last year I treated potato tubers and sprayed the bottom of trenches against the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm. I want to say that as a result there were no such pests; the tops and the harvested crop had no visible damage from these pests. I will continue to use Taboo in the future.

    Natalya, 48 years old, Barnaul region: I can say the following about Tabu - the drug is very effective, preparing the solution and processing potatoes is very simple. The only drawback of the drug, in my opinion, is its cost.

    Oleg, 44 years old, Tula: After treatment with the Tabu insecticide, Colorado potato beetles completely disappeared from the potato beds. But I have a nagging doubt: maybe the use of this insecticide is not so safe. Maybe it accumulates in the tubers that we then eat?

    Elena, 56 years old, Kazan: In my opinion, Tabu is a very effective drug. I don’t see any disadvantages to this insecticide.

    Despite the fact that the Tabu insecticide is a relatively new drug, today its effectiveness in the fight against the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm is not questioned by those vegetable growers who have used the drug on their plots at least once.

    Use of the drug Tabu to protect potatoes

    Treating potato tubers against pests using Taboo can be done in two ways:

    • Processing potato tubers before planting;
    • Treatment of potato tubers during planting along with the planting furrow.

    Both methods are equally effective; they differ only in the concentration of the working solution.

    Personal safety measures

    Taboo refers to chemicals with toxic effects, so before using it you need to pay attention to personal safety measures. Without this, its use is strictly prohibited.

    Personal safety measures include:

    • Protective clothing such as a face mask and gloves;

    • Carrying out treatments either in the fresh air or in technical rooms where there is no access to food and water;
    • Refusal to eat and eat while treating tubers with the drug.

    Processing potato tubers before planting

    This is a classic way of using Taboo and similar disinfectants. It is distinguished by its simplicity, safety and effectiveness.

    For pre-sowing treatment of potatoes, you need to prepare a working solution. Considering the water-suspension form of the drug, preparing a working solution will not be difficult. The instructions indicate that to treat 100 kg of potatoes, you need to dilute 8 ml of the drug in a liter of water. In this case, first the drug must be diluted in a glass of water, stirred thoroughly, and only after that the remaining water must be added.

    Important! These proportions must be reduced or increased depending on the available number of tubers.

    Before processing, the tubers must be laid out on a tarpaulin or film in one row. After this, the working solution must be shaken thoroughly again and sprayed onto the spread out tubers. To ensure that the tubers are evenly covered with the solution, it is recommended to turn them over during processing. At the same time, due to the dye in the preparation, you can immediately see which tubers have not been processed.

    After processing, the potatoes should dry out a little. Only after this can it be planted in the ground.

    Processing potato tubers during planting

    The possibility of spraying potatoes already planted in holes is an innovative solution by the manufacturers of Tabu. This method of processing significantly saves time and is as effective as pre-sowing treatment.

    For this method, the working solution is prepared in a lighter concentration. To treat one hundred square meters of land, you need 4 ml of the drug mixed with 10 liters of water. In this case, the drug must first be diluted in a glass of water, and then mixed with the remaining water.

    Important! If it is necessary to treat a larger area, the proportions recommended by the manufacturer must be increased.

    Now all that remains is to spray the potato tubers placed in the holes or furrows.

    , the manufacturer of the drug Tabu, has prepared a special video about its product. Before using the drug, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with it:

    We will also give reviews from people who have already used this disinfectant in their gardens.
