Work is carried out only in dry and windless weather. When it rains after treatment, spraying the potatoes with Beetle Eater has to be repeated.
Important!
Treatment with Zhukoed is carried out 20 days before harvesting root crops - during this time this product is completely removed from the potato bushes.
Composition and dosage form
The drug "Zhukoed, SK" contains three active components:
- ALPHA-CYPERMETHRIN , 125 g/l,
- IMIDACLOPRID , 100 g/l and
- KLOTIANIDIN, 50 g/l.
They are one of the most effective substances in the chemical classes of neonicotinoids and pyrethroids.
Preparative form – SC (suspension concentrate).
Release format/packing – 5 ml ampoule, 9 ml bottle, the drug is protected by the manufacturer from counterfeiting with a special code authentication system.
The registrant and manufacturer is CJSC Firm “August”, one of the leaders on the Russian market in the development and production of pesticides for plant protection. "August" is a member of the Russian Union of Manufacturers of Plant Protection Chemicals.
Composition and release form of insect repellent
The Beetle Eater product contains several active ingredients that are classified as insecticides with a wide range of applications. They are designed to combat flying and crawling pests.
The composition of the drug is represented by the following components:
- Imidacloprid is the main component that ensures the destruction of the Colorado potato beetle and also prevents re-invasion. The decay period lasts two months;
- clothianidin is an element that accumulates in rhizomes and spreads to all greens;
- alpha-cypermethrin is a component that is concentrated in the foliage and provides protection against any harmful living creatures.
In addition, the composition is represented by additional substances that are responsible for the rapid recovery of plants after a parasite invasion, accelerated growth and fruit formation.
Mechanism of action of "Zhukoed, SK"
In terms of action, “Beetle Eater” is an insecticide, in terms of penetration method it is a contact-intestinal pesticide, and in terms of the nature of action it is a systemic pesticide.
Neonicotinoids have high biological activity, are well accumulated by receptors found in insects, block the transmission of nerve impulses, as a result of which they die from nervous overexcitation. Pyrethroids penetrate the integument of insects, causing rapid destruction, and affect the nervous system of insects, causing paralysis and death.
a) Alpha-cypermethrin provides a contact effect, acts instantly (pests stop feeding within 1 hour after treatment and die)
b) Imidacloprid provides a systemic effect, is quickly absorbed by the leaves and redistributed throughout the vascular system throughout the plant. In addition, imidacloprid provides anti-stress resistance (drought and other unfavorable conditions)
c) Clothianidin provides distribution and long-lasting protection.
The duration of the protective effect is 15–20 days.
The speed of the initial impact is that the pest’s feeding activity ceases within an hour after treatment, and death occurs within 24 hours.
Operating principle
The active substances penetrate the plant cells within two hours, after which they are no longer afraid of rain and scorching sun rays. In the body of the Colorado potato beetle, poisons enter through the respiratory tract, where they enter by contact during eating. Even when consuming a minimal dose of poison, the insect experiences paralysis and then death.

If the “Beetle Eater” gets on the chitinous cover, then the larvae of the Colorado potato beetle, regardless of age, die instantly. It will take about 14 days to kill the entire insect population. It is imperative to remember that the poison is deadly not only for pests, but also for bees, fish and amphibians, therefore it must be used with extreme caution, and do not spray 2 weeks before flowering.
Application regulations

Harmful object | Colorado beetle |
Norm of use of the drug | 1.5 ml./ 3 l. water |
Time of processing | During the period of vegetative development of crops (late May - early September) |
Processing method | Spraying with working solution |
Working fluid flow | 3 l./ 100 m2 |
Number of treatments | once |
Waiting period before harvest | 20 days |
Application procedure
The working solution of the beetle beetle insecticide is prepared directly in the sprayer tank: the measured dose is poured into the tank with the stirrer turned on. A manual sprayer or a backpack sprayer without an electric drive (with the tank pumped by an air pump) is shaken vigorously 4-5 times and gets to work. The working solution must be developed within 6 hours. The mother solution cannot be prepared, it is unstable.
It is better to spray early in the morning on plants that are dry from dew and rain; time before rain 6 hours. The absorption time of the active substances into plants is 2-3 hours, and their maximum concentration in the leaves will occur precisely at the time of the greatest nutritional activity of the beetle. Consumption control is visual: the working solution should form a continuous thin film on the leaves. When the first flowing drops appear, the stream from the device is transferred to the next area to be treated. During spraying, splashes of the solution on the soil should be avoided in every possible way.
Instructions for using the Colorado potato beetle insecticide are given in table. below. Flags indicate graphs of the concentration of the working solution and consumption rates for Russian and Belarusian drugs. Pay special attention to the period of beetle invasion: the drug will get rid of it for the season if the treatment is carried out just when the first tiny larvae begin to appear. Adult alien beetles will eat a little before that, but they are not nearly as voracious and will not have a noticeable effect on the crop.

Precautionary measures
The 3rd hazard class (moderately hazardous substance) is really defined for the insecticide Beetleworm - but only if it is handled correctly and carefully, because is provided mainly by technological and organizational methods. For the same reasons and subject to the same conditions, the following security zones are designated for working with the drug:
- Apiary – 1.55 km (limited flight of bees for 24 hours).
- Reservoirs, water supply sources - according to their water protection zone.
- Children's, medical and recreational institutions, public recreation areas - 150 m.
- Residential buildings, food storage facilities, premises and areas for keeping pets - 50 m open; 15 m closed.
- Other outbuildings – 5 m.
Personal protective equipment for working with the drug Zhukoed can be used simplified (see figure):
- A plastic raincoat over work clothes that covers the entire body;
- In hot weather, when working with a hand sprayer, instead of a raincoat, you can get by with a rubber or plastic apron, but then you need to put a shower cap on your head and match all your hair under it;
- Eyes should be protected from splashes with protective goggles;
- The respiratory organs are protected with a petal respirator with a degree of protection of at least 2;
- You need to put on household latex gloves with long cuffs on your hands. The cuffs of the gloves are pulled over the sleeves of work clothes;
- Since potatoes are a low-growing plant, you need to wear rubber or plastic boots on your feet. The trouser legs are tucked into the boot tops. In combination with a cape or apron, the hem of which is lowered below the top of the boots, it is unlikely that the drug will get into the boots if you work carefully.
If the drug gets on your body, you need to undress naked and take a shower. PPE is then neutralized with a 2-4 tbsp solution of baking soda. l. half a liter of water, and work clothes are washed with laundry soap. In case of contact with eyes, rinse them thoroughly with open running water and consult a doctor immediately. If ingested, take a suspension of 3-4 powders or crushed tablets of activated carbon, then another 2-4 glasses of water, induce vomiting and again immediately consult a doctor.
Note: it is unacceptable to induce vomiting in a person who is unconscious or does not control his actions - this can lead to rupture of the diaphragm!
You should also immediately seek medical help (or take the victim to a medical facility) if any of the symptoms of acute poisoning with neonicotinoids, pyrethroids or cyanides are present: any breathing difficulties, pale blue skin, increased excitability or, conversely, lethargy, any disturbances in motor activity (trembling , tic, unsteady gait, loss of coordination), decreased muscle tone (unreasonable fatigue), salivation, narrowing of the palpebral fissures, narrowing or dilation of the pupils.
The drug Zhukoed is stored under the usual conditions for pesticides - in a separate non-residential premises, inaccessible to children and animals. It is unacceptable to store food and food products, medicines, clothes (including work clothes), shoes and household items there. Neutralize spills on the floor with a soda solution, followed by rinsing with water. Also, PPE (respirator according to the instructions for it) is treated with a soda solution followed by rinsing after finishing work; work clothes are washed with laundry soap. Empty drug containers are destroyed in an incinerator.
