Treating your apartment for fleas
As a rule, fleas, once they have appeared in an apartment, spread almost throughout the entire territory of the dwelling, preferring all the space that is less than a meter above the floor level.
In addition, if a pet is the reason for the infestation of fleas in the house, then most of them will be on the litter or the animal’s usual place of residence. How is an apartment processed? Before using a purchased product, you should wash the floor and remove all food products away from the intended treatment areas.
It is also important not to leave pets’ bowls in the treatment area.
Fleas on a pet
The animals themselves should first be treated for fleas, and then temporarily relocated to another place, fortunately hotels for pets are now common. As for their processing, deltsid will be a universal preparation. His specialty is not only the disinfestation of premises, but also the treatment of dogs, rabbits, pigs and even cattle and sheep.
Everything that can be washed is washed. Everything that cannot be washed is carefully knocked out and, if possible, steamed. The apartment is meticulously washed with detergent. Since in the case of store-bought products we are talking about treatment with toxic substances, it is necessary to use respirators and masks during cleaning. After cleaning, you should leave your home for 2-3 hours, and then ventilate it well and wipe the work surfaces with a damp cloth.
It is often recommended to vacuum the apartment if there are fleas in it.
It is important to remember that fleas are not destroyed by a vacuum cleaner, they simply accumulate in the dust bag. Therefore, after using a vacuum cleaner, it is necessary to treat the machine itself for fleas.
It is worth vacuuming the apartment after disinfestation, but not before it.
It is recommended to carry out this kind of treatment of the premises 2 times with an interval of 2 weeks: during this period, new armies of insects hatched from eggs will grow. And finally, when using insecticides, it is strongly recommended to carefully read the instructions and strictly follow them in order to avoid poisoning and insufficient treatment of premises.

How to remove fleas from an apartment at home using folk remedies

How to get rid of earth fleas in an apartment?
One of the best methods to remove fleas from the house at home is to add a certain amount of brewer's yeast to the garlic tincture. Sometimes a decoction with a mixture of wormwood, tansy and eucalyptus is prepared against them. A decoction or tincture of geranium and lavender leaves will also be effective.
How long do fleas live without a pet in an apartment?
The exact life span of these insects directly depends on the type of parasite. Their average lifespan is two to three months. But some of them can live on animals for more than a year.
Why are they dangerous?
The very knowledge that there are fleas in your apartment does not make you happy. However, besides aesthetics, there are more compelling reasons that make you think about quickly getting rid of parasites?
- Firstly, fleas bite painfully. Most often, bites occur on the legs and stomach of a person. The consequences of the attack are very unpleasant - the damaged areas itch and do not go away for several days.
- Secondly, parasites can infect the body. Of course, there is no need to talk about the plague, but even safer infections can cause a lot of trouble.
Therefore, if you notice fleas in your apartment, think less about where the bloodsuckers came from, and more about how to exterminate the pests. Although fleas do not pose a mortal threat to humanity, they can seriously poison life. You shouldn't put up with their presence.

Many people try to get rid of fleas in an apartment using organophosphorus compounds: Diazinon, Dichlorvos, Karbofos, etc. These substances are quite effective, but it is not advisable to use these products against fleas in an apartment.
The products are quite toxic (especially if you have small children living with you) and have a pungent, often unpleasant odor. Therefore, before spraying your home, you need to think carefully. Often these products are used for disinfestation of non-residential and industrial premises.
The following drugs have proven themselves to be effective:
- Gett. The drug is popular due to the absence of a pungent odor and does not damage the surface of furniture. The product has German analogues - Empire-20 and Master-250;
- Chlorpimirac is the most common against Colorado potato beetles in the country, but fleas also die from it;
- Sinuzan - perfectly eliminates parasites, but has a very pungent, unpleasant odor;
- Biorin - Sanitary and epidemiological services often treat homes with this product. It is unlikely that you will be able to buy it yourself.
Don’t forget: after completing the treatment, you need to leave the apartment for several hours, and after returning home, ventilate well.
Stage 4: reprocessing.
Despite the high effectiveness of flea remedies, we should not forget about the younger generation. Before dying, young fleas will most likely lay larvae, which will eventually become the founders of a new parasitic colony in your home.
To be sure to get rid of parasites, repeated treatment is necessary. It is recommended to do this with the same product that you used during the first treatment; the recommended period for re-treatment is 7-10 days after the first.
Traditional methods
In the fight against parasites, any methods are good, including folk remedies. Methods for exterminating pests using folk recipes:
- Insects do not like strong smells, so our ancestors successfully used concentrated herbal infusions: tansy, wormwood, eucalyptus, mint;
- pine sawdust is used as a source of strong, unpleasant odor;
- baking soda is a universal remedy for an experienced housewife, effective against parasites;
- treating the room with a mixture of brewer's yeast and garlic is very effective against fleas. But such an aroma is difficult for household members to perceive.
Prevention measures
It sounds trivial, but prevention is what helps to avoid a lot of trouble. To avoid the appearance of fleas in the apartment, you should keep the apartment clean, remove hard-to-reach places, regularly treat the apartment with disinfectants, beat and ventilate the carpets.
You should not neglect the condition of your pets, otherwise you will later have to get rid of cat and dog fleas in your apartment.
General preventive measures against parasites involve the following:
- promptly eliminate defects in window frames, doorways, wall joints, and floors. It is recommended to carefully seal the cracks; it is in the cracks that bloodsuckers like to leave their eggs and the larvae develop;
- Be sure to keep your home tidy and clean, ventilate the room regularly;
- in the spring-summer period, for preventive purposes, it is recommended to treat the apartment with wormwood tincture or lay out the grass itself around the perimeter of the room;
- Monitor the humidity level in the apartment. If you notice mold, fix it immediately. The presence of mold promotes the proliferation of pests.
- inspect the ventilation openings in the apartment. After completing all the activities, be sure to put special nets and filters on the holes;
- When going to the basement, do not wear clothes with long sleeves and long legs. Fleas on them can migrate to your home. When you return, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly;
- To prevent your pets from becoming carriers of parasites, wear special collars and treat them with antiparasitic drops, shampoos, and soaps. Don't forget to treat pet bedding and areas where pets like to be.

Modern organizations involved in the disinfection and disinfestation of premises consist of teams of professionals who have the skills to properly treat an apartment from rodents and parasites, including fleas.
Experts use modern fumigation methods. With the help of special equipment, disinfestation is carried out quickly and competently. A particularly common method of exterminating fleas is using hot fog.
The principle of operation of hot fog is to pump the insecticide into a gaseous state, thanks to which the product reaches even the most hidden corners of the apartment.
It won’t be difficult to kill fleas in an apartment yourself at home, but will it be forever? The following situations often occur when processing independently:
- a flea colony, having received an insufficient dose of poison, can simply migrate to another place and continue to parasitize;
- an incorrectly selected dose of insecticide can lead to the development of immunity in parasites, this factor will significantly complicate further removal.
If you turn to professionals, you will receive:
- inspection of the apartment, and, if necessary, neighboring premises. The survey is carried out to determine the degree of infestation, identify pest habitats, methods and routes of penetration;
- development of a phased disinfestation plan. It certainly includes work to exterminate fleas and preventive measures to prevent reappearance;
- application of the most effective method for exterminating bloodsuckers;
- control over the quality of the processing performed.

Composition and action
The medication is packaged in glass ampoules of 2 ml. The main substance in Deltsid is the pyrethroid deltamethrin, which has a pronounced antiparasitic quality. Thanks to this component, the drug is actively used against fleas, lice, ticks, and house bugs. The mechanism of operation of the medical product is based on the ability of its active component to block the transmission of an excitation impulse along the nerve fiber, as a result of which the parasite’s central nervous system is paralyzed and he dies. If the recommended doses are followed and the procedure is carried out correctly, Deltsid will be absolutely safe for cats and will show the most positive results.

Delcid is classified as a moderately dangerous substance, if taken in doses according to the instructions, it does not cause irritating or toxic effects.

The variety of flea products on the shelves of modern stores leads to the fact that people simply do not know how to make the right choice.

When carrying out treatment, you need to take care of your safety and protect the animal from the toxic effects of the drug. To do this, you need to consider the following recommendations:

Deltamethrin has a fast action: the active substance Deltsid penetrates the parasite's body and almost instantly affects it.
The mechanism of action is achieved by blocking nerve impulses in insects, which first provokes paralysis, and then the death of the parasites.
Greetings! We lived many years ago near Tver, we had our own farm, friendly neighbors. One day our neighbors decided to start breeding rabbits.
For some reason, all the sellers told us a lower dose, although the product itself says the proportion in which we diluted it. For an area of 10 m2 you need at least 0.5 liters of solution. This is if the surface is not porous (laminate, linoleum). If you have carpets or rugs for 10m2 you need 1l. minimum. In fact, 1.5 liters are gone.
Deltsid, when used in recommended doses, does not have a toxic, irritating or sensitizing effect. The drug can cause mild irritation only if it comes into contact with the mucous membranes of pets. The instructions prohibit the use of the veterinary drug for treating emaciated, sick animals.
Vacuum the entire apartment. Don’t be lazy to get into hard-to-reach places and remove dust. We didn't move anything that was difficult to move. If possible, move sofas if it is not possible to spray under them. Accordingly, the kitchen was not moved either. Do a wet cleaning.
The drug is presented in the form of an oily, fairly transparent liquid, yellow-brown in color. After mixing with warm water, the emulsion acquires a persistent white color. I think it’s our fault that we removed fleas for a whole month: we noticed too late that the cat had livestock. She didn't bite her tail or itch much. The first bell was when members of the household began to be bitten on the legs at night. And only a couple of people were bitten. It was August. We thought that maybe insects had flown in. A week later they inspected all the sleeping places and thought there were bedbugs. Deltsid is produced packaged in 1.25; 1.5 and 2 cm3 in glass or polymer ampoules, packed in a cardboard box of 5 ampoules; 1000, 1250 and 1300 cm3 in metal or polymer bottles and 3, 5 and 20 dm3 in metal or polymer canisters of appropriate capacity.

Composition and preparation of the solution
The main active ingredient of the flea product is deltamerin. It blocks the nervous system of parasites, which leads to paralysis and, consequently, death. Deltamerin is not particularly toxic, so it can be used not only in the home, but also for treating animals
However, you should still take precautions when using it.
Chemical flea treatment in the apartment has a number of advantages:
Performance. The first results are visible already during the treatment of the premises. And within an hour after application, massive death of parasites is observed. Efficiency. The drug destroys both small and large fleas. In addition, it destroys insect larvae. However, it is worth noting that the active substance does not kill parasite eggs invisible to the eye. The fact is that they are very durable and not susceptible to insecticide. In this regard, experts recommend re-treating the premises after 2 weeks. Multifunctionality. The drug kills not only fleas, but also ticks, bedbugs, lice eaters and other parasites. Low toxicity
If the instructions and precautions are followed, the insecticide does not have a negative effect on the human or animal body.
The only big drawback of the drug is the weakening of its effect under the influence of sunlight. In this regard, not forgetting about fleas, periodic repetition of the treatment of premises or animals is required.
Deltsid is available in the form of a brown emulsion in glass ampoules. To begin treating your home and pets, you need to prepare a working solution. The dosage of the liquid depends on the purpose of use. For example, to treat premises, 3.75 ml of Delcid should be diluted in 1 liter of water. It should be noted that from 25 to 50 ml of working solution are consumed per 1 m² of room. It is imperative to remember that concentration must be maintained, regardless of the size of the room.
To eliminate fleas on a pet, 0.125 ml of the product is diluted in 1 liter of water. Experts advise purchasing the drug in ampoules for animals. It should be noted that the consumption of the working solution is 5-10 ml per 1 kg of body weight. The ampoule should be opened immediately before dilution. The composition is stirred for 20 minutes.
Advantages and disadvantages
The flea remedy “Butox” is quite common and has pros and cons of use. What are the advantages of the drug:
- The results from use last for about 8 weeks.
- The drug is safe when used correctly.
- Preparing the solution is simple.
- Affects fleas and some other parasites.
- Allows you to get rid of adults the first time.
- One ampoule costs on average about 30-50 rubles, which is cheaper than many insecticides.
Instructions for using this substance against fleas in an apartment are included in the package. The concentrate must be diluted in 3-5 liters of water at room temperature.
What are the disadvantages of the drug:
- It is required to buy goods only in trusted places, as there is a risk of buying a fake.
- The solution has an odor that lasts for 2-3 months.
- The substance cannot be used on all animals - the substance is dangerous for pets under six months old.

The solution for treating residential premises and animals should be prepared immediately before using the drug. The finished mixture cannot be stored for a long time. The drug has positive reviews, is accessible and inexpensive in comparison with analogues, the active ingredient of which is deltamethrin.
Carrying out processing
The disinfestation of the premises itself includes several stages, each of which affects the result.
At the first stage it is necessary to prepare the room, this requires:
- In this case, a vacuum cleaner is indispensable, since with its help you can collect and get rid of most of the clutches of eggs. You will need to vacuum carpets, upholstered furniture, all corners, and under furniture.
- It is necessary to move furniture away from the walls, remove cobwebs and dust.
- Be sure to do wet cleaning, which also gets rid of eggs.

About the correct use of the drug
Animals are treated with this medicine by spraying or bathing. Most often, the first method is used for cats.
To prepare a working solution for spraying, the contents of one ampoule of the drug must be dissolved in a small amount of water and then mixed with the rest of the liquid. If we are talking about scabies mites, then you need to dilute one dose, that is, an ampoule of the medicine, in 1.6 liters of water. To kill lice and fleas in a cat, an ampoule of the drug is mixed with 6 liters of water. But for a one-time treatment of small animals, such as cats, you need to use only 0.5 liters of Delcid solution. As a rule, the drug is used once for the purpose of preventive treatment of the animal. If there is a need to remove parasites, then for therapeutic purposes, pets are treated twice with an interval of 7 days.
The treatment is carried out using a spray bottle, first protecting the pet’s head so that the medicine does not get on the mucous membranes. Usually it is more convenient to spray a cat or cat together. One person holds the animal, and the second carefully processes the coat. Then you need to let the wool dry. After treatment, the cat is not bathed for 3 days.
After using Delcid, you must wash your hands with soap and isolate pets from contact with children.
If there are several cats living in the house, or a cat and a dog, then all of them must be treated with the drug at the same time. Also, don’t forget about animal bedding. They are treated with the same solution and allowed to dry.
If the instructions and dosages of the drug are strictly followed, no side effects or complications are observed in pets. But sometimes, with increased sensitivity of cats to deltamethrin, refusal of food, vomiting and loss of coordination of movements are possible. In such situations, stop using the drug. Desensitizing therapy is carried out.
Deltsid must be stored in closed packaging in a place protected from direct sunlight. It should not be accessible to children. Storage temperature ranges from 10 to 30°C. The shelf life of Deltsid is two years.
Contraindications and side effects
Contraindications for the use of Delcid in cats:
- weakened conditions;
- exhaustion (including after illness);
- hypersensitivity to Delcid components;
- second half of pregnancy.
If you use the emulsion strictly according to the recommendations, there will be no side effects. If the cat is hypersensitive to the components of the drug or an overdose occurs, the following phenomena may occur:
- lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting;
- swelling, lacrimation, increased salivation;
- disorientation (disturbed gait, etc.).
In such cases, you need to contact a veterinarian. The specialist will check the animal’s condition; if necessary, the cat may be prescribed symptomatic therapy. The cat owner should remember that this drug is not recommended for further use.
If the cat's behavior/condition changes after using Delcid, its use should be discontinued.
Reviews of Deltsid in ampoules confirm the safety of the product if its use complies with the instructions in the instructions. If the drug gets on the skin or mucous membranes, you must immediately rinse it off with running water, and then remove the remaining product with a slightly alkaline solution.
If the insecticide gets inside, the victim should drink several glasses of water at room temperature and 5-8 tablets of activated carbon or other absorbent medicine.
In case of individual intolerance to the drug, weakness, nausea, and vomiting may occur during treatment. If one of the signs appears, disinfestation should be stopped and you should seek help from a medical facility.
Release form and cost
Delcid can be purchased in the form of a concentrated liquid or emulsion. The concentrated drug is available in ampoules of different sizes; you can purchase 1.25/1.5/2 ml. Such ampoules are packaged in cardboard packages, in which 5 pieces are packed. You can also purchase 1/1.25 liter bottles.
For treating large spaces, the drug is sold in the form of an emulsion. Available in canisters with a volume of 20 cubic meters. Regarding the cost of the drug, it may differ depending on the place of sale; the average cost of a package with 5 ampoules will be about 100-130 rubles. The approximate price of a 1 liter bottle will average 2800 rubles.

Before processing, you must wear a respirator, gloves and a protective suit.
Upon completion of work, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands and breathe air. At this time, the treated room should be isolated for an hour, and then open the windows for 2. Then carry out wet cleaning. It is advisable to repeat the procedure after 10-20 days to get rid of the larvae left behind by the insects.
Animal handling
In parallel with the apartment, animals (if any) need to be treated, since animals are also carriers of fleas.
Dog, cat, rabbit, ferret
Dogs
The easiest way to apply deltsid, both for the dog and for the owner, is by bathing; it is more convenient to use ampoules
It is important that the product does not get into the eyes, ears, nose and mouth of the animal. After the procedure, the pet should stay away from other animals for about 2 hours until the fur is dry.
Cats
Delcid can be applied to a cat's fur by spraying against the growth of the fur. After treatment, the animal cannot be bathed for at least 2 days. When using the solution, symptoms may appear: apathy, trembling, severe salivation. You should not worry for the first three days - just give your pet water, but if the symptoms have not gone away during this time, contact a veterinarian.
Other animals
Deltsid can be treated with almost any animal, since no side effects have yet been identified. The exception is fish, as the product has a detrimental effect on them. It is strongly recommended to consult a doctor before using the drug, especially if the animal is small and fragile.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of Deltsid include its speed and effectiveness, since the drug copes with both small and adult fleas, and the result is visible already in the first hour of work.
Deltsid is also used for bedbugs!
The disadvantage is often called toxicity, but if all the rules of use are followed, no unpleasant moments have arisen and do not occur.
Conclusion
The exceptional effectiveness of the drug, double action - on the premises and on the animal, safely destroy fleas and guarantee an instant effect every time they appear.
How to treat a room with Deltsid
For small spaces, it is often enough to dilute an ampoule of the product with water. It is better to purchase Delcid for fleas in a large apartment or in a house in a bottle with a large volume of contents.
The drug in an opened bottle remains effective for up to 6 months if stored correctly. The product should be out of reach of children and kept away from sunlight and out of contact with food.
After diluting with water and stirring for 20 minutes, a white emulsion is obtained. The solution is placed in a spray bottle or container with a sprayer and used when treating the room. The best results in the fight against parasites can be achieved by knowing how to treat an apartment against fleas with Deltsid:
- Before disinfestation, clean up - vacuum, wash all surfaces.
- After treatment, Deltsid is not washed off for 2 weeks.
- Furniture is moved away from the walls before spraying, since baseboards, corners of the room, and cracks along the walls need careful treatment.
- The diluted product should be sprayed at a distance of 20 cm from the surface.
- It is recommended to protect your mouth or nose with a mask or respirator; the spray bottle should be held at arm's length; it is better to wear rubber gloves and a protective suit. After cleaning the apartment, hands should be washed thoroughly with soap and clothing should be changed.
- When processing, special attention is paid to the place where the pet sleeps. Treatment of the animal is carried out simultaneously with disinfestation of the premises using a deltsid solution or other drugs to combat fleas.
- When treating surfaces, it should be taken into account that fleas can jump to a height of up to 1.5 meters.
- During disinsection and for an hour after it, the windows and doors of the premises are left closed. Then ventilate for at least 2 hours. Owners and pets are advised to leave the premises for a while after treatment.
General recommendations for use
Important! Only freshly prepared emulsion can be used for processing; it cannot be stored: the drug loses its effect. As a rule, the type of animal determines the method of treatment with this drug.
It is actively used by both large farmers and people who handle household pets and pets.

Already during processing, adult individuals die, and within an hour after, their mass death begins. Most often, re-treatment is required, since under the influence of light and heat the insecticide loses its properties.
Chicken processing. Like all animals, chickens are also susceptible to parasites. These can be not only insects that live and reproduce exclusively on birds, but also the most common fleas. The fight against them involves processing the poultry. To do this, you can use a garden sprayer or spray bottle. In this case, the plumage is wetted abundantly and evenly.

It is important to note that after treatment there is no need to leave the house for a long time, since the product does not have a negative effect on the body. This product is used not only to treat animals, but also to carry out disinsection and decontamination of livestock premises.
This product is used not only to treat animals, but also to carry out disinfestation and decontamination of livestock premises.
The drug is presented in the form of an oily, fairly transparent liquid, yellow-brown in color. After mixing with warm water, the emulsion acquires a persistent white color.
The choice of a high-quality insecticide largely determines the effectiveness of the room treatment procedure. Therefore, you should approach the issue of choosing it with all seriousness. You should mostly focus on reviews from real consumers who had the opportunity to verify in practice the effectiveness of a particular product. This is exactly the case with the drug “Deltsid”.
If there are several cats living in the house, or a cat and a dog, then all of them must be treated with the drug at the same time. Also, don’t forget about animal bedding. They are treated with the same solution and allowed to dry.
If it is necessary to treat the surface in an apartment, the dosage is 3.75 ml of Delcid per 1 liter of water.
A friend of mine owns a small farm with cows and says that he periodically treats calves with Deltsid for parasites. He recommended this remedy to me when there were fleas in the apartment. After treatment there was a slight specific smell, but it quickly disappeared. And along with it, insects.
According to the degree of impact on the body, Deltsid belongs to moderately dangerous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses they do not have a locally irritating, resorptive-toxic or sensitizing effect. Upon contact with mucous membranes, it causes mild irritation. Toxic to fish and bees.
Therefore, before starting disinsection it is necessary:
- Vacuum all carpets and paths, upholstered furniture, corners and dusty places where flea eggs may be found.
- Do wet cleaning: wash the floor and wipe the surfaces.
- It is better to move the furniture away from the wall to open access to the baseboards.
- Immediately before starting pest control, close all windows and doors.
- It is better to temporarily evict pets from the apartment.
Depending on the type of animal, the most suitable processing method is selected. For example, so-called swimming holes are used for sheep and other livestock. Pets can be treated by spraying.
Instructions for use of Delcid
The manufacturer's instructions indicate 2 methods of use - treating the cat and treating the room. Depending on the method, the methods of use and dosage of the drug differ.
Animal processing
The cat can be bathed (if it has long hair) or sprayed with Delcid solution (if it has short hair). In this case, bathing should be done in a bathtub, and sprinkling should be done with a spray bottle. In this case, you need to avoid getting the solution into the cat’s eyes, mouth and nose. If we are talking about ticks, then you need to treat not only the infected area, but also the area around it with a diameter of 1.5–2 cm. In any case, Deltsid must be dissolved immediately before use, and always in cold tap water. After this, you need to let the fur dry, and it is not recommended to bathe the cat for 3 days after treatment.
The emulsion will dissolve more evenly if it is first mixed with a small amount of water in a separate container, and the resulting solution is then poured into the main amount of water.
Table: dosage and application regimen
Type of parasites | Dosage | Application diagram
Treatment | Preventative
Lice, lice, fleas | 2 ml per 1.6 l | 2–3 times (interval - up to 10 days) | 1 time |
Scabies mites | 1.25 ml per 1 l | 2 times (interval - up to 2 weeks) | Once every six months |
Ixodid ticks | Up to 1 ml per 1 l | 1 time |
It is recommended to treat a cat with Delcid solution under the supervision (supervision) of a veterinarian. You also need to remember about the character of the cat - not every animal will allow itself to be smeared or soaked with an incomprehensible solution with an unfamiliar smell.
My cat can calmly respond to bathing (every six months I bathe her with a special shampoo, so she is not afraid of smells). But she doesn’t trust sprays or any atomizers. As soon as you pick up a spray bottle, she runs away and hides. Each owner has his own “tricks” for calming pets. My older cat, for example, behaves calmer when she is “lisped.” She can easily endure having her nails trimmed, putting on a new collar, and even trying on overalls. But my sister’s cat calms down if you show him a treat (but don’t give it). He will sit quietly and endure in the hope that later he will be given a “yummy treat.”

Treating the premises with Deltsid
Before treating a room, it must first be prepared. Animal food and food must be removed, it is advisable to cover the dishes with waterproof film, etc. Delcid is diluted with water, and the resulting solution is sprayed or washed in the desired room. Some owners call this process “filling” the room (especially if there are a lot of fleas in it). After treating the room, you need to wait 1.5 hours and then ventilate the room. Vents, windows or doors must be open for at least 60 minutes. Insect corpses must be removed so that the cat cannot come into contact with them. The floor can be swept or vacuumed. The cat's dishes, combs and trays should be thoroughly washed, and the bedding should be washed. Only after this can the pet be allowed into the room.
The manufacturer recommends calculating the amount of the finished solution based on the quality of the surface. For 100 m2 of smooth walls and floors you will need 5 liters of emulsion, and to treat 100 m2 of rough surfaces - twice as much.
Table: preparing a solution for surface treatment
Insect species | Rough surface | Smooth surface |
Crawling | Up to 19 ampoules per bucket of water | Up to 2 ampoules per 1 liter of water |
Flying | Up to 10 ampoules per 1 liter of water | Up to 10 ampoules per 1 liter of water |
To treat the room with Deltsid solution, you can use a special sprayer.
General description and composition
Deltsid is a complex insecticide with a broad spectrum of action. It can be used to kill bed bugs, fleas, ticks, and, with some effectiveness, cockroaches and house ants (black and red).
Deltsid is available in the form of 2 ml ampoules. The solution is an oily brownish liquid. Composition of the product:
- 4% deltamethrin is the main active ingredient that has an insecticidal effect;
- catalysts;
- fragrance;
- stabilizers.
Initially intended for removing fleas and lice from pets, Deltsid later began to be used for disinfestation of premises
The drug can be used to remove parasites from pets or to treat premises against insect pests. Initially, the product was created for the first purpose, but later its ability to exterminate bedbugs, cockroaches and ants was noticed.
The average cost of Delcid is 190-210 rubles for 5 ampoules. You can buy the drug in pet stores; it is much less common in household chemical stores (insecticide department). To treat a large area, you can immediately take 1 liter of the product for 2180-2200 rubles.
How does Deltsid act on bedbugs, and how effective is the product? (+video)
The drug has a contact effect and does not drive away, but rather destroys parasites, causing failure of their nervous system within several hours after contact with the insecticide. During the time that the parasite's nervous system fails, it manages to infect other relatives.
The result is the complete destruction of the colony within one week. But Delcid is effective only against sexually mature individuals, while it does not affect larvae, eggs or adults of insects. But this is not a problem, everything can be solved with repeated treatments.
After the first treatment of the room, we wait 10-20 days and treat again, after the same time we do another treatment. The idea is simple: we wait for new offspring to hatch and eliminate them, after which the colony dies out completely.
Delcid leaves passive protection for several months, that is, during this time the emergence of a new colony of parasites is impossible. There are very rarely exceptions if resistant (resistant) types of bed bugs get into the apartment.
Is the product dangerous for humans and pets?
Delcid belongs to hazard class 3 insecticides, that is, when used correctly, it is not dangerous for pets and people. Cases of intoxication are very rare and are associated with accidental ingestion of the product or its contact with mucous membranes.
For greater safety, after treating the room, wait 12-24 hours, after which we wipe those areas with which you most often come into contact. First of all, these are door handles, furniture doors, and external structural elements of the bed.
Be sure to wash window frames and baseboards, since pets may come into contact with the product in these places. If they are not there, do not wash off the product. It is strictly not recommended to wash off the preparation from the area under the bed, since in this case the passive protection against bedbugs will be impaired.
When and how to use
The drug is intended to combat ectoparasites on domestic animals. It can also be used to disinfect premises. Thanks to this, Deltsid helps destroy fleas and ticks on cats and dogs, as well as prevent re-infection.
Animal handling
According to the instructions for use, Delcid for dogs and cats can be used as a bathing solution or for spraying. Before use, the antiparasitic agent is diluted in cool water. For these purposes, you can use regular tap water.
If spraying is planned, then one ampoule is diluted in 1.6 liters of water. Make sure to purchase a small hand sprayer first. When processing cats and dogs, follow several rules:
The treatment begins with the head, then the back and stomach are sprayed, and finally the area near the anus and paws. Particular attention should be paid to the ears, folds and other hard-to-reach places where external parasites like to hide. If your pet has long hair, it should be lifted with your hands while spraying so that the prepared emulsion penetrates the skin. When spraying, cover the animal's eyes, nose and mouth so that the solution does not get on the mucous membranes. The amount of diluted emulsion depends on the weight of the animal. For every kilogram you will need 5-10 ml of solution, depending on the degree of insect infestation. When processing, pay attention to places where insects accumulate or where ticks have embedded themselves. If you decide to bathe the animal, then make a less concentrated solution (1 ampoule per 6 liters of water) so that the medicine does not cause toxic poisoning
If you decide to bathe an animal, then make a less concentrated solution (1 ampoule per 6 liters of water) so that the medicine does not cause toxic poisoning.
If Deltsid is used for prophylactic purposes, the treatment is carried out once. It is wise to use the drug only in cases where there is a threat of infection, for example, when staying at the dacha in the summer. If fleas, ticks or other ectoparasites are found in a cat or dog, then treatment is carried out 2-3 times with an interval of 7-10 days, until the absence of parasites is confirmed by clinical examination of scrapings.
Note! 2-3 days before treatment and 3 days after using the drug, the animal should not be bathed. During this period, you should stop using shampoos.
Premises treatment
When treating premises, one ampoule of Delcid is diluted in 1-1.5 liters of water. Next, perform the work in the following sequence:
The room needs to be vacuumed thoroughly, paying special attention to places behind cabinets, armchairs and sofas, as well as other hard-to-reach places. Spray the prepared emulsion indoors. Be sure to treat baseboards and other “secluded” places where parasites like to live. It is advisable to wash the floor with the solution or spray it generously. After treatment, close the room completely for 30-40 minutes. Then the room needs to be well ventilated, but there is no need to wash the floors with clean water.
If surfaces that you come into contact with, such as tables, have been treated, they should be wiped with a damp cloth.
If there are a lot of insects in the house, the procedure should be repeated after 7-10 days, since the drug only affects sexually mature individuals. If fleas or lice are found on an animal, the room must be treated. The litter must be carefully treated or completely replaced.
Operating principle and general characteristics
The product from the ampoule is applied to the animal’s withers (upper part of the neck). The location was not determined by chance - this way the pet will not be able to lick the poison , which avoids poisoning , and also “saves” insect repellent.
Despite the fact that any flea ampoule contains a mixture of powerful insecticides most of them are practically harmless for warm-blooded animals , but are harmful to insects .
The toxicity of the drug is justified, because you need to get rid of a decent number of parasites in a short time.
The composition of all ampoules is approximately the same. Main components:
- pyriproxyfen, which slows down the growth of larvae;
- permethrin, which destroys the nervous system of insects without harming the cat or dog;
- fipronil - enters the gastrointestinal tract of fleas, paralyzing them;
- invermectin - helps get rid of not only fleas, but also ticks, but can be dangerous for cats;
- metaprene, which can destroy all parasites in less than a day.
All these substances are completely broken down in the digestive system of pets without causing harm to them. The exceptions are ivermectin and metaprene. They are very toxic and cause intoxication in warm-blooded pets.
