Fufanon-Nova and its analogues against strawberry pests

Composition of the drug

Fufanon Nova is a popular insecticide that is used in private and industrial farms to destroy synanthropic insects. The product is easy to prepare and use, suitable for use in protected and open ground. The active ingredient of Fufanon Nova is malathion. Its concentration is 44%. According to the method of penetration, it belongs to the group of contact-intestinal pesticides.

The substance has a wide spectrum of action. Designed for removing cockroaches, ants, flies, fleas, mosquitoes, moths, bedbugs. The activity is aimed at protecting plants from garden pests. These include aphids, scale insects, whiteflies, leaf rollers, mites, thrips, sawflies, mealybugs, and codling moths.

With the help of Fufanon nova, both adult insects and their larvae are destroyed. After treating an apartment or plant, the drug continues to act for 14 days with a gradual decline in activity. This enhances the effectiveness of sanitary measures.

What is a pesticide used for?

The product can be combined with other drugs except Bordeaux mixture, but it is better not to experiment. The product is used to kill pests such as:

  • mite, aphid, thrips;
  • weevil, codling moth, leaf roller;
  • copperhead, sawfly, scale insects;
  • whitefly, raspberry beetle, whitefly;
  • moth, gall midge, moth.

The active ingredient of the drug malathion (cythion, karbofos, adithiophosphate) is 570 g/l. The spraying procedure is carried out only when the plant is damaged by insects. The substance, entering the intestines of the pest, paralyzes its central nervous system, causing death.

Horticultural crops that are often susceptible to attack by parasites and require treatment:

  • apple tree, pear tree, grapes;
  • quince, cherry, sweet cherry, plum;
  • currants, gooseberries, strawberries.

Release forms

The product is produced in the form of a concentrated, homogeneous emulsion of a yellowish tint. It has an oil or water consistency. When the drug Fufanon Nova interacts with water, a white solution is first formed, which then brightens and becomes transparent.

Volume from 500 ml to 5 l

The product is available in large packages from 500 ml to 5 l. This packaging of the product is suitable for treating medium and large areas, such as gardens and vegetable gardens.

Ampoule, bottle

Fufanon nova insecticide is available in ampoules (5ml) and bottles (10ml). This dosage of the drug is suitable for plants with a small affected area. Particular attention is paid to the method of diluting the substance.

Disposable spray bottle

Special sprayers are used to apply the insecticide. They help distribute Fufanon nova evenly over the surface and penetrate deeply into the components. As standard, the drug is sold with a disposable spray bottle and spray nozzles.

The principle of operation of the product

The action of Fufanon-nova is achieved through the active substance malathion. When a pest enters the body, it turns into malaoxon, which is more active, and is absorbed into the intestinal tissue. The component paralyzes the functioning of organs and causes death. Fufanon is new effective against bedbugs and other synanthropic insects. The drug also has a detrimental effect on the Colorado potato beetle, flies, and causes the death of aphids and spider mites.

After treatment, a thick droplet mist forms over the plants, which is inhaled by insects. The drug is active within 1.5-2 hours after spraying. Complete death of pests occurs after 48 hours. The product remains active with a gradual decrease over 10 days.

On a note! To avoid pests getting used to the drug, you should alternate it with other products.

Chemical structure and action

Chemically, karbofos is an ester of dithiophosphoric acid, i.e. it contains active sulfur. This is due to the increased activity of the drug at temperatures above +25 degrees Celsius.

The structural formula of karbofos (malathion) and its spatial model are shown on the left in Fig. Pure malathion is a colorless oily liquid with a nasty odor that sticks to a certain surface better than sunflower oil and makes it non-wettable. This is why malathion initially found application in ore flotation.

Chemical formula and scheme of action of karbofos

Pure malathion is not very toxic and is easily neutralized by weak alkalis (eg, soda ash solution). But its solubility in water (145 mg/l) is sufficient to obtain a pronounced contact effect on pests, and good solubility in organic solvents enhances the penetration of the substance into the body of gnawing and sucking insects. When they feed, they are inevitably smeared with plant juice, and it always contains aldehydes, alcohols, ketones and other substances in which malathion dissolves well.

In the pest's body, malathion is firstly broken down according to the diagram at the top right in Fig. for very toxic esters of thiosuccinic and fumaric acids and the salt of dimethylthiophosphoric acid. The protective and digestive enzymes of the target in this case do him a disservice. It is difficult to obtain these poisons in the laboratory; they are very dangerous for all animals and quickly disintegrate in air. And so – the pest prepares a deadly poison for itself from moderately toxic raw materials.

Secondly, if the pest is an insect, in its body under certain conditions a specific reaction of malathion hydrolysis occurs according to the diagram at the bottom right in Fig. Its product, malaoxon, is an even stronger and more persistent poison for insects. This explains the different periods of protective action of Fufanon in different cases: on ticks in the open air for 5 days, on insects in the same place for 7 days, and in rooms where the lighting is weak and daily temperature fluctuations are small, up to 21 days.

Note: the contact activity of malathion is still much weaker than the intestinal one, therefore Fufanon against sucking pests is most effective against heat-loving species with thin integuments, for example. aphids, see video:

Three ends of one stick

Malaoxone is not only a poison for insects, but also a mutagen. Among the surviving mutants, they are resistant to both malathion and all OPCs. In this case, it is possible to eliminate the resistant population 100% only by leaving the land fallow for 2-3 years and using preventive treatments with pesticides on a different chemical basis: carbamates, pyrethroids, neonicotinoids.

Until recently, it was believed that the breakdown products of karbofos in warm-blooded animals were slightly toxic and did not damage their DNA. But in recent years it has been discovered that under certain conditions, both a certain amount of malaoxone and dithiophosphate, which is highly toxic to vertebrates, are formed.

The conclusion from here is trivial for all pesticides: do not exceed dosages and do not experiment on your own with the regulations for use!

Instructions for use

To get the desired result, follow clear recommendations. The Fufanon nova instructions indicate how to properly prepare the solution and use it in the garden and at home.

Preparation of the solution

The working mixture is prepared on the day of the sanitary event. The contents of the ampoules/bottle are diluted in water in a dosage of 1 ml to 1 liter. Gradually the volume is increased to 8 liters; depending on the type of crop, a different dose is used. During breeding, the area and degree of damage, the stage and type of plant development are taken into account.

Use in the garden

After preparing the composition, it is carefully poured into a container. To carry out the procedure, use a fine spray. The leaves are first moistened and the product is evenly sprayed over the surface of the crop. It is necessary to capture all areas so that pests do not escape to this place. To completely destroy the pests, a repeat event is carried out after 2 weeks.

To treat one currant or raspberry bush in the garden according to the instructions for use, at least 1.5 liters of diluted product is required. For fruit-bearing trees use 10ml/10l, for grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions - 12ml/10l. for ornamental shrubs, roses – 13ml/10l.

Attention! Fufanon is not used during flowering because it is dangerous for bees.

Use in an apartment

When fighting bedbugs and cockroaches, the solution is applied to places where parasites accumulate. To do this, use a sprayer, paint brush or roller. They treat mattresses, cracks under baseboards, cornices, in walls, bathrooms, ventilation holes, and upholstered furniture. Spraying for indoor plants on which harmful insects have settled is carried out outdoors. Processing must be carried out twice.

To combat synanthropic pests, it is recommended to adhere to the following dosages:

  • cockroaches – 15-20ml/1l;
  • flies – 10ml/1l, fleas – 4-5ml/l;
  • bedbugs – 3.5ml/l;
  • mosquitoes/ants – 5-10ml/l.

Important! The drug is sensitive to weather conditions. The disinfection event is carried out in the absence of wind, several hours before precipitation. Suitable time is early morning/late evening.

How to use Fufanon for treatment against bedbugs

For home treatment against bedbugs, of course, there is no need to specifically purchase a five-liter canister or a liter bottle of product emulsion. It's simply not profitable. However, if you or your relatives use Fufanon at the dacha to treat plants, it is quite possible to prepare a working solution for household disinfestation by borrowing a small amount of the drug. Moreover, water emulsions have an important characteristic - they smell less.

Preparation of working solution

The instructions for the drug describe the features of use to combat different types of pests. There are recommendations for carrying out treatment against bedbugs.

  • To prepare a liter of working solution for treating a room against valves, you need only 3.5 ml of Fufanon-super.
  • Use water at room temperature.
  • For precise concentration, first pour 3.5 ml of water from a liter bottle and then add the emulsion.
  • For mixing, use a disposable container, such as a plastic bottle. After use, the bottle must be disposed of immediately.
  • Working composition consumption: one liter is enough to treat surfaces of 10 square meters. m.

If you are not a summer resident or a gardener (and they are not in your immediate environment), it is better to purchase Fufanon-nova in an ampoule and prepare a working aqueous solution following the instructions.

Use the entire contents of the package; leaving any leftovers is pointless and unsafe.

Advice! Dilute an ampoule with a volume of 6.5 ml or 3 ampoules of 2 ml in 1.5 - 2 liters of water.

Basic processing rules

Treatment with the prepared composition of normal concentration is carried out by irrigation and spraying. A standard spray bottle is suitable for these purposes; you can also carefully spray the solution with a soft paint brush.

Be careful with the spray bottle. It creates fine particles of solution droplets that can be easily inhaled even through a bandage

The main thing is to treat the “right places” - the areas favored by bedbugs:

  • Gaps and cracks in baseboards around the entire perimeter of the room.
  • Sections of walls with peeling wallpaper.
  • Window sills on the inside, areas near radiators, ventilation and other hard-to-reach places.
  • Furniture should be handled with care. Apply the solution exclusively to the back walls of cabinets, cabinets, and hanging shelves. Treat upholstered furniture from the inside along the surface; brush over the fastening mechanisms and joints of parts.

Bedding cannot be treated with Fufanon. But it needs to be washed at maximum temperature and treated with steam.

After treatment, it is better to leave the room for several hours. In the future, it is necessary to carry out wet cleaning with a soap and soda solution and ventilate the room well (at least 30 minutes). The effect of the drug lasts for a month, so if necessary, spray the solution again should be done no earlier than after 4-6 weeks.

Security measures

Fufanon is not the safest chemical. In terms of toxicity to humans, it belongs to the third class. And due to its fumigation properties, it can be especially dangerous if inhaled. Therefore, it is very important to take all precautions during the preparation of the solution, during processing and subsequent cleaning:

  • When working with Fufanon, take care of protective equipment: hand gloves; eye glasses; respiratory bandage or mask.
  • During processing, ensure free air circulation - open windows and vents.
  • The presence of people and pets is not allowed during pest control.
  • It is prohibited to smoke, eat or drink while working with the working solution.
  • After carrying out work, wash your hands thoroughly and rinse your mouth.
  • Do not forget about protective equipment during cleaning.
  • Do not store the solution, pour it down the drain.
  • Wash the clothes in which the treatment was carried out in a soap-soda solution (50 g of soap; 50 g of soda per 10-liter bucket of hot water).

Malathion is quickly destroyed when alkali is added. Therefore, alkaline solutions, in particular soap solutions, can be used to neutralize household items after treatment

If you have a tendency to allergic reactions, do not poison bedbugs with Fufanon yourself.

Be careful and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms of poisoning:

  • sore throat, unpleasant chemical taste in the mouth;
  • profuse drooling;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • headache;
  • abdominal pain;
  • constriction of the pupils.

Safety precautions for use

Fufanon is classified as a substance of moderate toxicity (hazard class 3). When interacting with the drug, the following safety precautions should be observed:

  1. Carry out processing in disposable gloves, closed clothing, use a respirator and safety glasses.
  2. After the procedure, wash overalls and other protective elements thoroughly in soapy water.
  3. Do not hold the event in the heat - at high temperatures, evaporation increases, which can lead to poisoning.
  4. Before treating residential premises, remove people and animals from the rooms, put all clothes in closets and close the doors tightly. Place food and hygiene items in cellophane bags and close them tightly.
  5. After processing, wait for a while - the waiting period is at least 1 hour.
  6. To avoid poisoning, you are allowed to work with the chemical for no more than 3 hours.
  7. It is better not to eat berries and fruits on the day of treatment.
  8. The solution container must be burned and cannot be thrown into the trash.

Important! The drug causes the death of not only pests, but also bees. Therefore, during the flowering period, disinfection measures are not carried out. The use of Fufanon is prohibited in the sanitary zone of fishery lakes. The security zone from water supply sources is 50 m, from open water bodies – 1.2 km.

Precautionary measures

The ADI (permissible daily intake into the human body) and MAC (maximum permissible concentration) in soil for malathion are quite high: ADI = 0.3 mg per 1 kg of body weight, and MAC = 0.2 mg per 1 kg of soil. Maximum concentration limit of karbofos in water of reservoirs is 0.05 mg/m3. dm. This is resp. 300, 200 and 83 times more than for one having approx. the same effect of cypermethrin and its preparations, for example. very popular Inta-Vir. However, the volatility of malathion is also much higher: the concentration of its saturated vapor in the air is 2.26 mg/m3. m at +20 degrees, 5.6 mg/cu. m at 30 degrees and 13.37 mg/cu. m at 40 degrees. MPC of malathion in the air of the working area (operator in PPE) 0.05 mg/cu. m, and in normal atmospheric air (people without PPE) 0.015 mg/cu. m. Calculate for yourself how many people can suffer from thoughtless handling of Fufanon and karbofos: this is useful for understanding the essence of safety rules when working with pesticides.

Considering these factors and that working in Fufanon often has to be done in the heat, and also that special insulating PPE with one-sided vapor permeability is very expensive, it is better for a small owner to use Fufanon in PPE constructed similarly to that for cypermethrin, with one exception:

  • On the body - ordinary work clothes.
  • On your feet - leather shoes.
  • On your hands - protective gloves with high gauntlets for working with pesticides.
  • For the respiratory system - a petal respirator. It is better to apply a 3-4 layer gauze bandage soaked in a weak solution of baking soda on it. As it dries, the bandage should be moistened with the same solution, extending beyond the working area.
  • On top of level 1 equipment is a plastic raincoat down to the toes with a hood with an elastic band.
  • On top of the cape is a head cap or helmet with a transparent face shield covering the head to the ears or beyond.

The purpose of all this rather curious-looking ammunition is to prevent direct contact of the drug vapor with the grease on the body: karbofos is highly soluble in it.

The time spent working with Fufanon in homemade PPE should be limited to 2 hours. While working, you must not eat, drink or smoke. If the slightest signs of illness appear, you should immediately stop working and consult a doctor. We emphasize: at the slightest sign of discomfort! Symptoms of karbofos poisoning develop slowly: after taking a lethal dose, respectively. outcome without treatment occurs within 30 minutes - 72 hours. The obvious symptoms of Fufanon poisoning are:

  1. Uncontrolled digestive tract disorders: vomiting, diarrhea.
  2. Dyspnea.
  3. Cyanosis (blue discoloration of the skin).
  4. Hypertension (increased blood pressure) – lethargy, heaviness in the head.
  5. Miosis is constriction of the pupils.

If the drug gets on the body, it should be washed off with water and the affected areas wiped with a cotton swab moistened with a solution of 1-2 tbsp. l. baking soda per liter of water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse them under running water. If ingested, take 2-3 activated carbon powder with a glass of water, then another 2-3 glasses of water and induce vomiting. After providing self-help, you should also consult a doctor without delay.

Security zones when working with Fufanon are:

  • For water sources and people – 50 m.
  • For residential buildings – 15 m.
  • For open reservoirs – 1.5 km.
  • Apiaries for Fufanon Nova – 6 km; Fufanon KE – 3 km.
  • Restriction of bees' flight accordingly. 96 and 72 hours.

Compatibility

Fufanon should not be combined with other pesticides. When the active components interact, neutralization or, conversely, activation of substances occurs. When compatible with fungicides (Horus) and insecticides (Fufanon nova), there is no change in physical properties.

It is allowed to use the drug in tank mixtures with insecticides of the pyrethroid group. Do not combine with alkaline calcium compounds, copper-containing and sulfur-containing drugs. It is also not recommended to mix with sulfide-based mineral fertilizers or substances with an alkaline reaction.

With other means, combination with Fufafon is acceptable. These can be root formation enhancers and growth stimulants. If no sediment forms during mixing, then everything is fine. Most often, gardeners combine the drug with Zircon and Epin.
