VERGUS - MICROCAPSULATED INSECT REPELLENT - ODORLESS, Manufactured in France

What types of barrier shield are there?

Barrier protection is a set of measures to prevent pests from entering a living space. There are different ways to control parasites:

  1. Mechanical. Mosquito nets on windows and air ducts, traps and canopies over beds are passive methods of pest control. This method works until the first bug accidentally enters.
  2. Repellent. Using repellent to repel arthropod guests. This element mainly repels blood-sucking parasites.
  3. Exterminating. The classic fighter barrier is a professional treatment.

Remedies for bedbugs for self-removal

There are several types of products that effectively kill bed bugs:

Potent folk remedies such as denatured alcohol, turpentine and kerosene destroy bedbugs only by directly treating their nests. Those bedbugs that are physically impossible to reach with the solution will not be destroyed, and therefore such folk recipes cannot be considered reliable - you will just waste your time and create a fire hazard in the apartment.

Review of Karbofos and the remedy for bedbugs Executioner:

“We poisoned bedbugs with Karbofos. And twice and both times with different results. The houses destroyed them in one day, and not one was ever seen again. After this, my wife felt dizzy for a long time - after all, the remedy is harmful. But at the dacha, everything was treated in exactly the same way, but the bugs remained. They poisoned me again - the same effect. Then I only found out that if one of the neighbors constantly poisons bedbugs with Karbofos, they get used to it and no longer die. Apparently our neighbor treats his chicken coop with it. We tried to treat the dacha with the Executioner - it worked. A good product, but expensive. 70 rubles for a small bottle, which can only be used to treat one mattress.”

Quite effective, judging by the reviews, but not a cheap means for exterminating bedbugs Executioner.

Feedback on the use of Get and Tetrix tools:

“If you need to poison bedbugs in an apartment, take Tetrix or Get. Definitely. Everything else is just for the kids to have fun. Especially all kinds of spray cans. Get has no smell, but somehow it seemed less effective to me. But Tetrix surprised me. The bedbugs began to die in one room while I was still poisoning in the other. I pushed the closet aside - and they were already dead there. But, really, this Tetrix stinks just horribly.”

Anna, St. Petersburg

What is a repellent barrier?

Barrier treatments of the premises are prescribed in the presence of parasites in neighboring apartments, to eliminate the constant penetration of linen bugs. With the help of special preparations, an exclusion zone for parasites is created in the apartment. The repellent effect is created by impregnating the walls with products based on repellents. They are evenly applied to the surface and create a protective shield.

Such insecticides contain enzymes that bedbugs can smell from several meters away. The protective film on surfaces lasts up to six months. This method of treating a room not only repels insects, but also affects their nervous system for several months. Barrier treatments are carried out only after thorough destruction of insects and their larvae.

Advantages of this method:

  • It has been observed that pigeons carry bedbugs on themselves to the balcony. Barrier treatment will prevent unexpected guests from entering the apartment.
  • If you have a parquet floor, bed bugs settle in the cracks between the boards. Repellent liquids will prevent them from coming to the surface.
  • Repellents repel all types of insects.
  • The drugs are odorless.

Barrier protection methods (+video)

There are 4 types of barrier protection:

  • chemicals;
  • thermal agents;
  • electric barriers (act like repellers);
  • folk methods.

To achieve maximum effect, it is better to use chemical barriers. To repel insects (but not kill them), you can use aromatic fumigators (electric). Well, if you want to save money, then use folk remedies.

Next, let's look at each type in more detail.

Chemical

They are highly effective and can eliminate bedbugs in 1-3 treatment processes. When choosing a product, be guided by the number of bedbugs in the house. If there are few of them, it is better to use aerosol chemicals. If there is a lot, use solutions.

The following remedies are considered the most effective:

  1. Executioner. The main active ingredient is fenthion. To create an emulsion, mix 1 bottle of Executioner with 1 liter of water.
  2. Karbofos. One of the few remedies that have a low probability of developing immunity (resistance) in parasites. Has a nerve paralytic effect. It is a very powerful product, so use it in special clothing, rubber gloves and safety glasses.
  3. Aerosol "Combat". Used to treat hard-to-reach areas, the effect is promised after 2 applications. The problem with aerosol is that it is consumed very quickly: 1 can of aerosol will treat up to 7 m² of surface.
  4. Mikrofos. Another powerful remedy that not only exterminates bedbugs, but also creates a protective barrier for 30-40 days. Effective not only against bedbugs, but also against fleas and cockroaches.
  5. Powders "Raptor", "Tetrix" or "Chlorophos". They are used to make a water-based emulsion (each product has its own instructions for creating it).

Thermal

It consists in treating the areas where parasites accumulate with boiling water or using a steam generator. Infected laundry must be boiled several times.

This is one of the safest methods of combating bedbugs, but it is also very problematic and difficult to implement. In fact, it is only suitable for things that can be removed and boiled (clothes, bedding, mattress covers). In addition, it does not create passive protection: the parasites can return.

Electric barriers

Electric barriers are highly safe to use, but do not destroy parasites, but only repel them. In some cases, this is even convenient, because you don’t have to clean up the corpses of parasites.

There are several types of electrical barriers:

  • ultrasonic - repels insects with high-frequency sound, forcing them to leave the room; have low efficiency;
  • electromagnetic – create high-frequency waves that affect the nervous system of parasites and block the passage of nerve impulses; reviews about such funds are contradictory;
  • aromatic fumigators - heat up and release a strong odor of oil, which should repel insects; Of all types of repellers, these are the most popular and considered effective.

If, after purchasing ultrasonic or electromagnetic electric barriers, you are not satisfied with their effectiveness, you can try similar devices for repelling rats or moles. Such devices work on the same principles, but are more powerful, and can help.

Folk

The safest methods, but also relatively low in efficiency. Especially if there are a lot of insects living in the apartment, and they have settled there for a long time.

The areas around household appliances, beds, armchairs and chairs should be treated first.
The areas around household appliances, beds, armchairs and chairs should be treated first.

The list is like this:

  1. Vinegar essence. It is better to treat those places in the room where the parasites travel routes (though only if you know them). This product can also be used to treat furniture.
  2. A mixture of kerosene, turpentine and boiled water. This mixture can be used to treat contaminated furniture. The mixture destroys both bedbugs and their clutches, which not every chemical can do.
  3. A mixture of hydrogen peroxide, ethyl alcohol and salt water. You can treat the interior of contaminated furniture, including shelves and drawers.
  4. Sagebrush. The simplest recipe: put a couple of branches under the bed or directly under the mattress, and also lay out the branches in the corners of the apartment.
  5. Valerian tincture. We treat tile joints, the space under the bed and furniture, linoleum and the space under carpets with the tincture. The tincture does a good job of repelling adult bedbugs, but is harmless to their masonry. Another serious disadvantage: strong smell. But if you have a cat, then this method is definitely not suitable.

When is protection required?

If the premises are located close to infested apartments, the installation of barrier protection against bedbugs is required immediately. The main risk-prone objects include:

  • wooden buildings;
  • premises in poor repair;
  • communal apartments and dormitories.

Usually, after the first disinfestation, insects do not enter human homes for a year. To perform the processing correctly, it is best to invite specialists. Experienced SES workers treat all kinds of surfaces through which pests can enter the house. On average, such events cost from 2 to 5 thousand rubles.

What is barrier protection or barrier treatment?

Barrier treatment is preventive measures to protect the premises from the penetration of any types of insects and rodents.
Every second pest control service (in addition to the basic service of exterminating cockroaches and bedbugs in an apartment) offers an additional paid service. It consists of a barrier treatment that supposedly will forever protect your home from the reappearance of parasites.

Is it worth agreeing to such a tempting offer, and will “magic” protection really help against relapse?

Let's try to answer this question and understand the degree of effectiveness of barrier treatment.

How to process it yourself?

Not all victims of insect attacks can afford expensive services from special services. So maybe try to save your home yourself? To do this, it is necessary to use long-acting drugs with a residual effect. The most common of these chemicals is Get. When renovating a room, this drug can be added to wallpaper glue or putty. It is also necessary to treat all places where pests move:

  • ventilation;
  • ceiling;
  • sockets and switches;
  • all the cracks.

One of the easily available insect repellents is the wormwood plant. Dry branches of grass are laid out under mattresses, on window sills, under entrance mats and near pets’ sleeping places. However, this method is not more effective.

Today we have determined what barrier protection against bedbugs is and what types of protection can be used. To summarize the above, you need to remember:

  • It is necessary to use an insect barrier only if you are absolutely sure that there are no pests in the room yet.
  • Calling specialists will cost more, but will be more effective.

We have carried out disinfestation against cockroaches and bedbugs: what to do next?

After the disinfestation procedure has been completed, the fun begins: the master offers to consolidate the result and create a barrier protection for the room.

For an amount equal to half the cost of exterminating cockroaches and bedbugs, he sprays corners, baseboards and other problem areas with a liquid insecticide (poison) that will prevent any insects from encroaching on your territory. At the same time, assuring the customer that the service life of the poisonous agent reaches 5, or even 10 years!

Most, of course, after the unpleasant experience of living next to bedbugs and cockroaches, agree.

But where is the deception?

The toxic effect of the applied substances lasts a maximum of 3 months! And this is provided that you do not wash the floor or carry out wet cleaning in the treated areas. If a gel was used for barrier protection, the time will be halved, since when interacting with air it gradually begins to dry out.

As a result, some of the poisoned cockroaches and bedbugs that migrated to neighboring apartments during treatment will, after some time, safely return to you through ventilation, sockets, cracks, etc.
