FAS sulfur bomb is used to combat rodents, fungus, mold and insects. The smoke emanating from it penetrates into all cracks and corners and drives away small pests. Can be used to treat non-residential commercial buildings: sheds, barns, greenhouses, greenhouses and many other premises suffering from pests.
The sulfur bomb “Fas” is excellent for ridding large premises of rodents
Purpose and application
The FAS sulfur bomb has a triangular or cylindrical shape and is similar in appearance to a smoke grenade (due to the casing material). The body is made of polycarbonate, which prevents complete combustion of the product. Total weight - 300 g. Sulfur is the main active ingredient, it makes up 80% of the total weight.
The FAS checker is designed for use outdoors and in non-residential premises. The length of the wick built into the checker is quite long. This allows the person using the product to move to a safe distance after setting the fire. The use of sulfur bombs in residential premises is strictly prohibited.
This video describes the use of sulfur bombs:
Is used for:
- Pest control. Sulfur bomb is a good insect killer.
- Disinfection. The product effectively rids the treated area of all types of fungi, mold and bacteria. Can be used in cellars, barns, greenhouses and other outbuildings. Smoke destroys any mold deposits in the most inaccessible places.
- For removing small rodents. Sulfur bombs are widely used against mice, rats, moles and other pests. The smoke kills small animals, but it simply drives away larger creatures, making them feel very uncomfortable.
The smoke emanating from the sulfur bomb penetrates into all crevices and secluded places, which allows you to completely get rid of insects
You can buy the product at absolutely any hardware store or supermarket that specializes in selling summer goods. In such stores, you should look for a disinfectant in the pest and rodent control department. The average price of a FAS checker ranges from 50 to 70 rubles.
Advantages and disadvantages of using checkers
The main advantages of this product are:
- The guarantee of good storage of crops increases when used in greenhouses.
- Low price with high performance.
- Easy to use. To do this, each box comes with detailed instructions that explain all the details of installation and the safety measures that must be followed.
- A delay of 1-2 minutes in the start of the wick burning ensures safety, during which time everyone can leave the room.
- Checkers for fumigating the cellar can be used in the house before finishing work begins to carry out preventive work against the formation of mold.
- Most manufacturers produce high quality products.
The significant disadvantages that the sulfur bomb has are:
- You must leave the premises during treatment. This is due to the constant danger of smoke entering the living rooms of the house through cracks in the walls or floor of the cellar. It is enough to inhale only a small amount of the volatile substance to be poisoned by sulfuric anhydride.
- It is prohibited to treat premises where there are any materials that can easily catch fire.
- Their use in multi-storey buildings is strictly prohibited. The smoke emitted by the saber has great intensity and high toxicity. It can easily penetrate even the very top floors of multi-storey buildings and pose a health hazard to its residents.
Advice: The use of sulfur bombs in an apartment is strictly prohibited; this can lead to criminal liability for the owner of the home.
- Food must be stored with extreme care. Checkers are stored in sealed original packaging, separately from food, out of the reach of animals and small children. It is necessary to protect them from fire.
- When fighting moles, some difficulty arises.
Tip: To effectively scare off moles and some types of rodents, the saber should be placed directly in the hole, which is not always convenient due to difficult access to the animal’s home.
Domestic use
The FAS sulfur smoke bomb must be used strictly following the instructions. Failure to comply with them can result in unpleasant consequences for a person.
The instructions for using FAS sulfur bombs are quite simple:
- Before use, remove food, plants and pets from the premises, and remove all objects and furniture if possible.
- Coat iron products with anti-corrosion lubricants or paint: sulfur dioxide contained in smoke increases corrosion of unprotected areas of metals.
Sulfur smoke can cause damage to a number of materials it comes into contact with. - Objects that could not be removed from the room being treated must be isolated from exposure to smoke. To do this, you need to cover them with thick film and seal them with tape.
- All cracks in doors, windows and other openings must be eliminated by first sealing them with tape or puttingty (if these are holes in the walls). Such actions will increase the effectiveness of the bomb without creating leaks and concentrating the smoke in the treated area.
- Before using a checker, you need to make sure that there are no flammable substances or materials within a meter radius of the burning site. If they are present, then they must be removed.
Before using a sulfur bomb, make sure that there are no flammable substances nearby so as not to cause a fire. - If the place where the product is used itself consists of a material that can ignite, then it is necessary to assemble a pedestal from non-flammable material with a height of 10-15 cm. Its length and width must be at least 30 cm. This will not allow combustion products to enter the space surrounding the pedestal.
- After the checker is placed in the burning place, you need to insert a wick into it and set it on fire. The wick glows for about 30 seconds. This time will be enough to go outside.
- After making sure that the combustion process has begun, you need to leave the room as soon as possible. After leaving the room being treated, you need to seal the gaps between the door and the jamb with tape.
Depending on the air humidity in the room, the burning time can vary from 30 minutes. up to 1.5 hours. After the room has been treated, you cannot enter there for 1.5-2 days. After this period, you need to ventilate the room for one or two days. If the smell of sulfur is still felt, then you need to extend the ventilation time until the smell disappears completely.
Where can I use the Fas checker?
The most important and important rule is not to use FAS sulfur bomb in residential buildings and especially apartments. The gas is very toxic (hazard class two) and can cause severe burns to internal organs if inhaled.
The following describes the places where you can use a checker.
For greenhouses
Before planting, it is recommended to treat the greenhouses with a smoke bomb Fas. This will help neutralize the room from microorganisms that cause plant diseases, fungi and mold.
Smoke should not be used while plants are growing. The smoke causes burns and you will not get a decent harvest.
Greenhouses can be made of polycarbonate, glass and film. If the structure has a metal base, it is not recommended to treat it with a Fas sulfur bomb.
The metal will react with the sulfur oxide and destroy it. The ideal option is if the greenhouse frame is made of plastic or has a wooden base.
Smoke affects microorganisms and insects only during fumigation and for several hours after. No residual effect is observed. Therefore, in case of severe infection with fungus or bacteria, it is recommended to carry out several treatments with an interval of 1 week.
Gardening specialists recommend processing 2 times a year: after harvesting, before the onset of frost. And the second time 2-3 weeks before planting the plants in the ground.
I suggest watching a video of processing in a greenhouse:
Every year, before planting cucumbers, I treat all greenhouses. I have never regretted using Fas sulfur bombs. I take 5 pieces for my area. I close the greenhouses for 2 days and then ventilate them. Cheap and cheerful.
Review by Boris, Moscow region
I have a small greenhouse, there is everything you want to eat. When I first started gardening, I didn’t understand how people’s greenhouses didn’t spoil anything, but I lost a lot of harvest due to fungus and spider mites. As soon as I learned about the sulfur bomb, all my troubles ended.
In the chicken coop
The problem with chicken coops is the presence of parasitic insects, mites, fleas, lice eaters and feather eaters. At high humidity, the development of mold and mildew is also possible.
- To treat the chicken coop with a sulfur bomb Fas, transfer the bird to another room.
- Do your best to seal any cracks through which smoke may leak.
- Move leftover food, water, and iron objects to another room;
- Place the required number of checkers, depending on the area of the chicken coop;
- Fas checkers should be placed away from places that are easily flammable;
- Place the checker on a brick or any other fireproof material;
- Place the wick on top and light it;
- Close the room and allow the process to complete;
- You can use the chicken coop no earlier than after 4 days.
Review by Victoria, Stavropol Territory
I don't really like using sulfur bombs. But this is the most affordable and effective remedy for fleas and lice in the chicken coop.
In the cellar
Sulfur in the Fas checker easily destroys fungi and bacteria in the cellar. After processing, supplies do not deteriorate and it is completely safe to be indoors.
The cellar must not be residential. Before processing, remove all excess. The main rule is that the cellar is not connected to a residential building.
- Food (they will be spoiled);
- Iron objects (they will rust and become unusable);
- Electrical appliances and other equipment.
I carry out the processing in the fall, before putting the potatoes in the cellar. After processing, I know for sure that nothing will deteriorate or rot.
For the bath
Bathhouses are places where it is often damp. Because of this, pathogenic bacteria, fungi and mold can appear.
The danger of processing a bathhouse is that it is all wooden, and this is a flammable item.
The main task is to place the checker in such a way that it cannot ignite everything around. Find a place where there are no flammable objects within half a meter in diameter. Place the checker itself on bricks or other fireproof materials.
Professionals recommend making a mini house with windows out of several bricks, and placing a checker inside. Smoke will spread throughout the room in any case, and the brick will protect against fire.
For pits
The Fas smoke bomb is not suitable for treating open pits. Sulfuric anhydride is very toxic and will cause trouble for everyone around it.
Your task is to make sure that the pit can be hermetically sealed.
In the garage
Garages are very often attacked by rats and mice. There is also no heating and therefore mold and bacteria are frequent neighbors of garages.
The problem is that the garage itself is made of iron, and the tools inside are also made of iron. During processing, the tools and structure of the garage will be damaged.
Possible harm and safety precautions
Although the manufacturer reports that the product is safe for humans, you should not linger in the treated area for a long time. The composition of a sulfur bomb includes sulfur dioxide, which can cause harm to the body, even if a person is wearing PPE (personal protective equipment).
For animals that may be indoors, the smoke from the bomb is dangerous and even fatal. It's all about sulfur dioxide contained in the smoke. It causes serious and sometimes irreparable damage to almost all internal organs in animals. Therefore, before using the checker, you must make sure that there are no livestock or pets in the area being treated.
Smoke can also have a negative effect on plants and food. You must ensure that all these items are removed from the room before use. You cannot leave food indoors, even if it is canned.
According to the instructions, the FAS checker has the fourth hazard class (low-hazard compounds). It won't do any harm until it's set on fire. But during use, the hazard class rises to second. Therefore, the second class (hazardous compounds) is indicated on the packaging.
For normal operation, according to the rules of use, people processing the premises must wear respirators (or gas masks) and rubber gloves. Homemade respiratory protection products will not save you from the harm caused by a saber. Only professional equipment can properly protect the human body.
Sulfur releases toxic substances when ignited; you should not stay in a room where a sulfur bomb is burning for a long time.
Cleaning the room must be carried out by two people. The two of them can seal cracks and remove objects that could be damaged. When setting fire to a FAS checker, it is necessary that both of them wear respirators and gloves. In this case, one of the people lights the fuse, and the second one insures it at the exit.
After treating the room, you need to thoroughly rinse those areas of the body that were exposed when the product was set on fire. You can also rinse your nose and mouth with a salt solution. Used respirator filters should be replaced and disposed of.
Preparing the basement for fumigation
Disinfection of an underground area affected by mold, rot or insects begins with the treatment of devices for storing vegetables and other products. Step-by-step instruction:
1. Dismantle and take out all racks and boxes. It is advisable to leave them in the sun - ultraviolet light helps destroy harmful bacteria, mold and insects.
2. Prepare a soap solution with the addition of soda and wash all the shelves with it, then disinfect them with an antiseptic.
3. Whiten wooden surfaces with lime.
4. Remove rot and mold from the walls, ceiling and floor. If the basement is concreted, finished with brick or wood, then this is done with a stiff brush. The soil is removed from the earthen floor to a depth of 10-15 cm and replaced with clean, dry sand or fresh soil. It is also necessary to completely remove the affected layer from earthen walls.
5. Seal the cracks with putty or cement mortar. Then treat with the same antiseptic as the shelves, or with slightly diluted potassium permanganate.
6. Whitewash the walls and ceiling with lime.
7. Dry and ventilate the room thoroughly. The process can be accelerated in the following ways: install a fan on the stairs to the basement for 5 days; use a heat gun (it will dry and ventilate the cellar much faster); Place a burning candle in a metal can or an alcohol burner under the exhaust pipe for several days.
The following are suitable as antiseptics for shelves, walls and ceilings:
- 8% alaminol solution. They wipe all surfaces in the underground twice or thrice with an interval of 15 minutes.
- Copper sulfate solution (copper sulfate). Ratio: 100 g of powder per 10 liters of water.
- Whiteness (bleach). Add 100 ml to 1 liter of water.
- Ready-made special antiseptic composition (sold in hardware stores in canisters).
The use of all of these products is associated with health hazards, so they are applied using goggles, gloves and a respirator.
Preparation of lime whitewash:
- Quicklime is poured into a metal bucket and water is added in a ratio of 1:3 or 1:4. When mixing, you need to take into account that when quenching, the volume increases by 2-3 times.
- Cover the bucket with a lid.
- Wait for the reaction to complete.
- Dilute with water to the consistency of liquid sour cream.
Apply whitewash to shelves and drawers with a brush, and to walls, floors and ceilings with a brush.
General rules for the use of sulfur smoke disinfectant bombs
Rules for treating non-residential premises from mold, rot and insects by fumigation:
- Conducted no later than 5 days before storing a new crop.
- Be sure to put on personal protective equipment before starting: goggles, gloves, respirator. Long hair needs to be tied up.
- Seal all gaps between the door or hatch cover and the frame with felt, damp cloth or similar sealing materials.
- You need to make sure that there are no strangers or animals.
- Light the wick with regular matches. If there are several checkers, then the one furthest from the exit is lit first. Two people must take part in the process - one is outside the control room, the second is inside.
- During work, it is prohibited to smoke, drink, eat, or use open flames. The duration of human contact with sulfur-based products should not exceed 6 hours.
- After treatment, change clothes, wash your hair, hands and face.
In case of accidental smoke inhalation, immediately contact an ambulance. Take the victim outside and rinse the airways with a 2% soda solution. If food poisoning occurs, be sure to induce vomiting, but do not give fluids to drink. If you lose consciousness, do nothing, wait for the doctor to arrive.
First aid for poisoning
There are cases of sulfur smoke poisoning . The symptoms look like this:
- dizziness or headache;
- vomiting or nausea;
- shortness of breath or pain in the lung area;
- difficulty breathing, cough;
- nose bleed.
If, after treating the premises, a person experiences symptoms from the list, the following actions must be taken immediately:
- provide the victim with access to fresh air, having previously removed him from the treated area;
- put a few drops of any nasal remedy into your nose;
- give the victim inhalation from a 3% salt solution;
- give an antihistamine.
