Tablets for cats to combat ectoparasites
Fleas are quite common in outdoor cats and pets. Not all owners pay attention to them and most do not consider this a problem. But when it is discovered that the animal’s skin suffers from the violence of these parasites, they wonder what flea remedies for cats exist. Cats bring a lot of pleasant moments to people. They are smart, funny and understand a lot. A caring owner always monitors the condition of his pet’s fur and skin and will definitely do everything to remove fleas from a cat.
What danger do fleas pose?
Insects that parasitize a cat’s body bite it, causing the animal to scratch the skin on which wounds appear. Quite often, dermatitis occurs, leading to hair loss. A large number of parasites can cause anemia in an animal. Fleas also cause the development of many diseases, such as:
- infections, fungus;
- worms;
- nervous system disorder;
- baldness.
Fleas can bite a person and feed on his blood, especially if the pet likes to sleep with its owner. This is evidenced by bite marks: red dots on the body and the itching experienced by the person. This suggests that it is necessary to promptly carry out treatment and preventive measures for cats against fleas.
Flea shampoo for cats
Shampoo for fleas on cats is a familiar, one might say, traditional preventive remedy. Note that antiparasitic shampoos are always liquid, since insecticides in the form of powder or powder are very dangerous to work with.
When working with liquid shampoo, it is important to follow the following rules:
- Do not pour on the cat's head; make sure that water and foam do not get into the ears or mucous membranes.
- Stir the shampoo in a bowl of water, then pour the foamed liquid along the animal’s spine.
- When using shampoo, it is important to cover the pet’s body with foam; it is this that creates an oxygen-free barrier that enhances the effect of the insecticide.
- The foam should be kept on the fur for at least 5-10 minutes; if the cat is very panicked, it should be wrapped in a towel and carried in your arms, calming it down.
- Rinse off the foam with running water until bubbles stop forming on the wool.
- After bathing, dry the coat as much as possible with a towel or hairdryer.
The following shampoos can be used to treat adult and young cats:
- Celandine.
- Leopard.
- Dana.
- Lugovoy.
- Rolf Club.
- Ms.Kiss – there is a series for kittens.
- Phytoelite.
- Beafar.
- Doctor Zoo.
- BioGroom.
- Gin Fort.
- Bio Wax.
- Veterinary Formula
- Gamma – there is a line for kittens.
- SynergyLabs.
Important! For bathing kittens, it is better to use phyto-shampoos with repellents of natural origin: herbs and essential oils.
The best effective remedies
Specialized stores and veterinary pharmacies offer a wide variety of drugs that can destroy cat fleas, their larvae and eggs. They differ in composition, but each of them contains an active component - an insecticide. It does not pose a danger to the health of the animal, and the insects die instantly. It is impossible to say for sure what the most effective remedy for fleas in cats is. Each drug has its own advantages and disadvantages, contraindications. And to understand this, let’s look at which of them have proven themselves well.
Does a flea collar help pets?
Does a flea collar help cats and dogs and is it dangerous for animals? These are the two main questions that interest pet owners who care about the health and safety of their four-legged friends.
Fleas cause a lot of trouble both to the animals themselves and to their owners: insect bites irritate animals, causing itching, and can provoke infections and inflammatory processes, allergic reactions. Caring owners strive to protect their pets from these troubles by using various preparations for treatment against blood-sucking insects: drops, sprays, shampoos. One of the means that also protects cats and dogs from fleas and ticks is a special anti-parasitic collar, which is put on the animal for a walk or for constant wear.
Types of collars and principle of protection
Externally, the anti-flea collar is a flexible plastic tape with a fastener, inside of which there are microcapsules with the active substance. According to the type of action, collars are divided into:
- repellent - scare away insects (biocollars);
- insecticidal - destroy pests;
- Ultrasonic - repels parasites.
Inside biocollars, as a rule, there are various essential oils and plant extracts (wormwood, celandine, eucalyptus, geranium, etc.), which are absolutely safe for animals, but intolerable by fleas. Contacting the animal’s fur, odorous substances are released from the collar, which gradually spread over the entire surface of the body, forcing insects to leave it and scare away new individuals. Repellents are effective for 2-3 months, after which the collar must be replaced. Models specially designed for puppies and kittens are available.
It is important to remember that the biocollar will not destroy existing fleas, so before putting it on, you should treat your pet with anti-flea products: wash with shampoo or treat with a spray. It is most effective to use a biocollar for walks, so as not to pick up parasites there and bring them into the house.
Insecticidal collars contain poisonous components inside and work to destroy parasites, so you should carefully read the instructions before using them so as not to harm your pet. The collar is activated by several stretches, after which it acquires a whitish tint, indicating readiness for work.
The active ingredients in insecticidal straps can be organophosphorus insecticides or pyrethroids, which act on insects through the contact-intestinal route and cause nerve reactions resulting in the death of parasites.
The usual duration of such a collar is 8-10 weeks, but some manufacturers guarantee an active period of up to 6 months.
Quite new on the market of antiparasitic products for animals is the ultrasonic collar. The manufacturer guarantees its absolute safety for cats and dogs and quick removal of insects. It is a flexible tape on which is attached a source of ultrasonic waves of a certain frequency that repel insects. Batteries are built inside to power the device. Their service life depends on individual characteristics. Due to the high cost, such products are not very common.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like any antiparasitic product, anti-flea straps have their advantages and disadvantages. The undoubted advantages of these means of protection are the following positive aspects:
- hygienic manipulations (washing, combing, etc.) are minimized using special shampoos, sprays, etc.;
- long-term effectiveness, allowing you to forget about bloodsuckers for several months;
- a universal action that allows you to protect your pet not only from fleas, but also from ticks, which is especially important when traveling out of town;
- there is no risk of overdose, since toxic substances are placed in quantities that are not dangerous to the animal;
- a large selection of models and various cost options.
The disadvantages of anti-flea straps include:
- The use of the safest biocollars is possible only as a preventive measure. They are not effective for animals already infested with fleas.
- The validity periods indicated by manufacturers are usually overestimated, which is due to the conditions of use of the collar.
- Insecticides have an active effect only on adult individuals, without causing harm to the larvae and eggs.
- For animals with increased activity, it is better to use other protective equipment, since sudden movements may cause the pet to catch the strap on something and get hurt.
Use hazards and precautions
When using the accessory, various negative phenomena may occur, in the event of which it is necessary to immediately rid the pet of the strap. There are frequent cases of allergic reactions, expressed by itching, sneezing and lacrimation, even convulsions and loss of consciousness. Typically, such symptoms appear 1-2 hours after putting on the collar. If similar signs appear 5-6 hours after starting to use the anti-parasitic accessory, this most likely indicates that the pet has been poisoned by chemical insecticides.
For the greatest effectiveness and safety of a flea collar, you should follow certain rules when using it:
- Use the products strictly for their intended purpose, i.e. do not use dog collars for cats and vice versa, do not put accessories intended for adult animals on kittens and puppies.
- Do not divide the product into several parts for different animals: it is intended for one pet only.
- The accessory should be fastened in such a way that there is a gap between the strap and the animal’s neck of at least 1 cm.
- The accessory should be stored in airtight packaging, which will extend its active life.
- Before using the collar, you should carefully read the instructions regarding the indicated dosage of the insecticide. The use of other antiparasitic drugs during the wearing period is not recommended, as this can lead to an overdose of insecticides and poisoning of the pet.
- The use of the insecticidal parasite strap is not recommended for pregnant female animals. For them, the best remedy for this period would be an ultrasonic or repellent collar.
The most popular models of anti-parasitic collars today are products from domestic and foreign manufacturers: Bars, Celandine, Doctor Zoo, Dana-ultra, Hartz, Bolfo, Beaphar. It is better to buy them in trusted veterinary pharmacies and pet stores, and when choosing, you should definitely ask the seller about the availability of certificates for the product being purchased.

Shampoos
Insecticidal shampoo for pets
This is a necessary anti-flea product that should be in every home where a cat lives. They are available for sale in an assortment, which causes some confusion among consumers. Flea shampoos for cats are popular because they have a number of advantages:
- ease of use;
- affordable price;
- possibility of use for pets prone to allergies;
- safety, this product can be used to remove fleas from a small kitten;
- lack of intoxication;
- creating a protective barrier against parasite infection;
- possibility of use as a preventive measure.
Flea shampoo cleanses the animal's fur well, making it shiny and silky. For long-haired cat breeds it is simply irreplaceable. When manufacturing products, manufacturers take into account the age of the animal, the length of the coat, the presence of possible allergic reactions, and the degree of infection with bloodsuckers. Therefore, when choosing a shampoo as a remedy for fleas and ticks for cats, you need to carefully read the instructions or better consult a veterinarian.
Insecticides included in any shampoo have a wide spectrum of action. Getting quickly inside the flea, they paralyze not only the insect, but the eggs and larvae. In addition to them, the composition contains vitamins, surfactants, and minerals. Some shampoos contain plant extracts (plantain, celandine, burdock, etc.), which have a healing effect, relieving itching and inflammation of the skin.
Special shampoos are produced for kittens, as evidenced by the markings on the bottle. Such products contain less insecticides, and there are special additives designed to care for delicate skin.
Important!
It is not recommended to wash cats frequently. They constantly “wash themselves”, licking the negative from their fur. Psychologically, this is very important for them. Scientists believe that if a cat is prohibited from doing this, it may die. Frequent bathing is harmful to the animal's fur and skin.
Shampoos for cats
Let's look at which shampoos, according to professionals, are considered the best:
- BioBak. Produced in Russia, in addition to insecticides, it contains wormwood extract, which acts as a repellent and prevents re-infection. In addition, it is recommended to purchase a spray or drops.
- Ms Kiss. The development of Swiss manufacturers effectively helps rid adult cats and kittens of fleas. The shampoo contains 0.5% permethrin, which acts instantly, destroying parasites. The bottle is equipped with a dispenser; with one press, a concentrated product in the amount of 2 ml is squeezed out. For an animal weighing 4 kg, 1 ml is enough. The effective product protects the cat from the action of the insecticide thanks to the conditioner it contains. After using Ms Kiss, the fur becomes silky, combs well and does not get tangled.
- Rolf Club. Shampoo from Russian manufacturers contains a complex of vitamins and permethrin, which quickly destroys fleas on any breed of cat. The available plant fragrances contribute to a pleasant smell.
- BIO-GROOM. The developer is a famous American company. In addition to insecticide, shampoo contains natural and artificial ingredients.
- Celandine. The Russian shampoo contains vitamin B5, aloe vera extract, and 0.4% permethrin. It is effective in killing larvae, eggs and fleas. It should not be used on small kittens. A special shampoo with a gentle composition has been developed for them.
Special flea drops for kittens - a guarantee of safety and effectiveness
Every owner of a pet like a cat gets a lot of pleasure from communication. They bring happiness to the house, a large amount of positivity, lift your spirits, and save you from loneliness. But, unfortunately, even small kittens can become infected with fleas. And various means can help fight them, for example, flea drops for kittens.
Why is it necessary to control parasites?
Even a newborn kitten can get fleas, and his mother passes them on to him. And if a kitten is on the street, communicates with other animals, then in this case you need to always be on guard and be sure to check its fur. Of course, not every person will be able to calmly treat parasites and know how to fight and rid their furry miracle of them. And it is necessary to take the necessary measures if fleas are found on kittens for many reasons:
- to eliminate severe itching caused by parasites;
- protecting it from diseases such as dermatitis, allergies, and the development of blood diseases;
- protection from exhaustion and even death.
It is worth knowing that fleas can infect not only a kitten, but also a person with various life-threatening diseases. And the fragile body of a small pet is most susceptible to this. Therefore, at the first signs of their presence, it is worth thinking about how to rid a kitten of fleas, what modern means are best to use.
What symptoms may indicate the presence of parasites?
A kitten can be a carrier of various types of fleas: rat, dog, human, rabbit and other types. If your dog has fleas, read the article “How to choose and how to apply flea drops for dogs?”
They almost all have the same appearance, so only a specialist can distinguish them. But in any case, the remedy for fleas for kittens can be the same, as well as the signs expressed in frequent scratching, biting fur, restless behavior and even refusal to eat. Also, dots, red-colored wounds, allergies, and dermatological diseases may appear on the body. A small pet infected with insects has a sickly, emaciated appearance.
It is very dangerous if fleas appear on a newborn baby and if they are not dealt with, this can lead to her death.
Previously, only physical methods were used in this case, such as combing and bathing, but today there are effective products on sale that will be safe if you adhere to the treatment regimen and perform all procedures carefully and thoughtfully.
Of course, treatment always requires effort, time and effective means, and when caring for a kitten, increased safety measures so as not to harm its health. But restless behavior and constant scratching may also indicate other diseases, such as dermatitis, subcutaneous mites; in these cases, the help of a veterinarian will be required, since it is absolutely impossible to cope with these problems on your own.
How can you detect fleas, signs of their appearance
Fleas can cause worms in a baby, even in those who are still breastfed and do not eat meat or fish. So fleas in a kitten of 2 months and younger provoke the appearance of helminths, which appear 7-10 days after them. But it is still quite easy to detect parasites if you pay close attention to your pet and regularly examine its fur, but at this time it is not very thick and long, so doing this is quite easy and simple. For more information on how to detect fleas on a cat, read the article “How to find out that a cat has fleas and what to do in this situation?”
An important point is strict adherence to safety measures in the fight against parasites. To a question like what to do about a kitten with fleas, you need to know the correct answer: it must be treated only with special products intended especially for tiny kittens.
What are the dangers of using products not intended for treating kittens?
Of course, it is necessary to take measures to treat insects, but we should not forget that not all flea remedies for kittens can be safe, unless they are a special medicine specifically for small patients. The composition of their active ingredients consists of insecticides, some of which can cause side effects in children, but will be completely harmless for adult animals.
Therefore, it is necessary to use only those drugs that are suitable for a certain age, so fleas on a 1-month-old kitten require the use of drugs suitable for a month-old baby. You should also be careful when treating a kitten that is feeding on its mother's milk. After all, she will be able to lick off a chemical that, if it gets into the milk, will have a bad effect on his health.
In any case, there is always the opportunity to help the baby, for example, when treating with drops, isolate him from his mother for a while and allow him near her only during the feeding period. If you have a ward, the question always remains relevant about what is the best thing to do if a kitten has fleas, how to get rid of them in a less safe, but more effective way, and you always need to know the answers to it.
What medications can be considered the most effective?
There are different flea treatments for different ages of cats. As practice shows, it is best to comb newborns and kittens no more than 1 month old using a soft, thick comb, without using chemicals. This method is most suitable for small numbers of insects. If the animal is more than 1 month old, you can use flea shampoo.
For babies older than 1.5 or 2 months of age, an excellent choice may be Bars flea remedy, special drops for babies that do not have any contraindications for use. But at the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the pet does not experience any side effects, such as allergies; if this happens, then you will need to choose another remedy. But still, special flea drops, which are designed for a certain age and used according to the instructions, must be effective and safe.
Usually the drops are applied to the withers and the baby cannot lick it off and get poisoned, in this case there is no question of how to treat a cat for fleas most effectively and safely.
The use of sprays requires great care, as it will be necessary to spray the entire body, protecting the eyes. In this case, you need to occupy the kitten for a while so that it cannot lick the drug, and the insects can die during this time. After this, the pet must be bathed. At the same time, the anti-flea drops used for cats do not require this, since their action is less rapid and is additionally aimed at protecting against further infection.
In any case, it is necessary to adhere to certain rules, take into account the degree of infection by parasites, and based on this, use methods to combat them, of which there are not so many. One of them is the removal of parasites using special flea drops, which should be used at a certain age of the pet.

Foresto
According to many dog owners, the German brand collar is the most effective. This is evidenced by numerous reviews. Accordingly, the cost of production is quite high and ranges from 1700 to 2100 rubles. The substance contains two active components: imidacloprid and flumethrin. The first protects against all bloodsuckers, the second accumulates in the sebaceous glands, it is toxic and not suitable for cats. The manufacturer produces two types of collars - for small and large breeds of dogs. The products have long-term repellent protection and are equipped with reflectors, allowing you to observe animals in the dark. Foresto collars are waterproof, the dosage of the drug is low.

Drops
Drops on the withers for fleas
A good remedy for fleas for cats is drops on the withers. They are the easiest to use, as evidenced by the high demand for these drugs. An effective medicinal complex contains insecticidal components that destroy not only adult fleas, but also eggs and larvae. The product also repels other parasites from the pet, so many cat owners use drops to prevent parasite infection.
The insecticide is packaged in convenient plastic pipettes, which makes it easy to apply the drug to the withers and spine of the cat. Flea drops for cats do not need to be washed off, and the prolonged nature of the action ensures 100% ridding of the animal from parasites. The protective effect after using the medicine will last for approximately two months.
There are many varieties of flea drops for cats, so which product is best is decided by each consumer based on specific results. When choosing a drug against bloodsuckers, you need to pay attention not only to how much a particular insecticide may cost.
On a note!
When purchasing flea drops for cats and kittens, you should take into account the age, weight and health status of the furry cat. Medicines are safe for animals and are applied to places that are difficult to lick, not on the cat’s fur, but directly on the skin.
According to consumers, the most effective flea drops for cats and kittens are represented by the following names.
Leopard
The domestic flea remedy is not inferior in its effectiveness to expensive imported drugs. The active components fipronil, praziquantel and ivermectin have a nerve paralytic effect on bloodsuckers. Important!
Fleas smell fipronil well and prefer not to attack an animal treated with the drug.

The product does not enter the animal’s blood, but is evenly distributed over its skin and protects pets from parasites for a long time. The complex of active ingredients includes fipronil and other insecticides. They act on the nervous system of parasites, which leads to paralysis and death of bloodsuckers.
Review
On the advice of friends, we purchased FrontLine drops, since after a summer visit to the dacha, the cat was found to have fleas. The parasites disappeared very quickly and did not appear again.
Svetlana, Chelyabinsk
Celandine, Advantage, Stronghold, and Dana Ultra drops are also popular. This is just a small list of modern drugs for fleas in cats that are widely used in veterinary medicine. All medications are supplied with detailed instructions, which contain all the necessary information about the product. Before using an insecticide, it is necessary to carefully study it and only then begin to treat the animal. To avoid negative consequences, you should consult a doctor who will select and recommend the safest and most effective flea medications for a particular cat or kitten.
What criteria do you use to choose a flea and tick remedy?
When choosing an antiparasitic agent, you should pay attention to the following criteria:
- Efficiency. The drug should quickly destroy existing parasites and prevent invasion within the time specified by the manufacturer after use.
- Range of action. Many manufacturers produce products that contain several active ingredients. Such preparations destroy not only fleas, but also other ectoparasites (lice, lice, ticks), helminths, and also have a repellent effect against mosquitoes, mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects.
- Duration of effect after a single application. This criterion is important if there is a possibility of re-infection of the animal with parasites.
- Toxicity. It is necessary to pay attention to the possible toxicity of the active ingredients of the drug for kittens, pregnant, lactating and elderly cats.
- Mode of application. It is important to consider how convenient the chosen drug is to use. Some dosage forms impose restrictions on performing necessary procedures for the animal (for example, bathing or grooming), which may not be appropriate for the owner in this situation.
Collars
Flea Collar
A flea collar is one of the most convenient and well-proven devices used to protect cats from jumping insects. This product is easy to use and safe for cats. The essence of its work is that the insecticide with which the strap is impregnated poisons fleas and repels with its smell insects located on any part of the pet’s body. A cat collar is ineffective in the fight against bloodsucker larvae and eggs.
The undeniable advantage of a multi-colored strap is its versatility - it rids the cat of parasites and at the same time is a preventive measure against new infections. The instructions provide the necessary recommendations that will allow cat owners to put on the protective device correctly.
On a note!
On average, a collar protects an animal for two months, but some manufacturers guarantee the effectiveness of their products for six months.
The most popular products on the market are:
- Hartz. Waterproof collars are considered the standard among cat lovers. Parasites die very quickly and the protective effect lasts for 3 months. A wide range of models allows you to choose the preferred product option. The company does not produce collars for kittens.
- Bolfo. The manufacturer guarantees protection for cats for approximately 4 months.
- Beaphar. The assortment includes products for cats and kittens from the age of one and a half months. The collar is impregnated with a natural insecticide – margosa extract, which is safe for the health of fluffies.
You can choose the right flea protectant for cats and kittens in specialized stores or veterinary pharmacies, where experts will tell you what is best to buy for your pet.
On a note!
To prevent fleas in newborn kittens, it is necessary to destroy the parasites during the cat's pregnancy using safe means.
What to choose for your dog: collars or drops on the withers against ticks
Modern veterinary medicine provides dog owners with a huge selection of remedies for parasites. This, in fact, becomes the main difficulty. After all, you have to decide: what is better - a collar or drops, and which product to choose for your pet.
How a flea and tick collar works
Flea and tick collars available today can be divided into two categories - parasite-killing and parasite-repellent. The first category includes products that have an antiparasitic effect due to insectoacaricides, for example, diazinon, permethrin, fipronil and other substances. Active ingredients and their combinations are precisely and carefully selected to combine effectiveness and safety, resistance to adverse environmental influences and other requirements.
The polymer tape of the collar serves as a reservoir for the drug, which is gradually distributed throughout the animal's fur. It is this principle that allows collars to work for so long.
The second category - repellent collars - have a powerful repellent property. The composition includes essential oils and their various combinations, which are intolerable to parasites. At the same time, the smell does not seem unpleasant to humans or animals. Essential oils are quite volatile, so a collar with herbal ingredients should be replaced more often than a collar with synthetic ones.
The principle of action of drops against fleas and ticks
Products for application to the withers also contain substances that act on parasites. Most of them work in much the same way as collars, only a kind of “depot” is created directly in the sebaceous glands of the skin.
“BARS” drops on the withers contain three active components that work as synergists, that is, they mutually reinforce each other. These substances are lipophilic, in other words, they easily dissolve in fats and are almost insoluble in water. Each dog’s hair is covered in a thin film of fat, the so-called “mantle,” which gives it elasticity and protects it from water.
When Bars drops are applied, this film absorbs the components of the drops. Moreover, the drops create a small supply of active substances in the sebaceous glands of the skin. Since the fatty mantle is constantly renewed due to the activity of the sebaceous glands, the protection is also updated. A tick or flea, in search of a convenient place to bite, crawls along the dog’s fur, coming into contact with substances that are harmful to them. The most persistent of parasites receive a “control blow” at the moment of the bite. This is practically not dangerous for a dog, since the scourge of our pets - the disease piroplasmosis - is not transmitted immediately, but during the process of feeding the parasite.
Insectoacaricidal Drops "BARS" in recommended doses do not have a locally irritating, resorptive-toxic or sensitizing effect. It is well tolerated by dogs of different breeds and ages.
Features of the funds
Both collars and flea and tick drops are designed for the same purposes. But they have their strengths and weaknesses.
The advantage of collars is their ease of use. It is enough to put such an accessory on your dog, and the animal will be protected from fleas and ticks for up to 4 months. This product is safe for your pet's health (of course, provided that the collar is used exactly according to the instructions).
But if the animal has a lot of fleas, complete destruction of the parasites will take a relatively long time. Therefore, it is preferable to use a collar to prevent attacks by bloodsuckers. It is also important to remember that flea and tick treatment only works as long as it is on the dog. If you remove it, the animal will quickly be left without protection.
Drops against fleas and ticks have a more extensive effect. They can be used on dogs already infested with fleas or lice, and are effective after a single application for up to several weeks (the exact duration of action is indicated in the instructions for each drug). But it is important to select these products with the utmost care: for young animals, drops with a lower concentration of active ingredients should be used (usually such preparations are labeled “For puppies”) and the weight of the pet should be taken into account (a two-month-old Spitz puppy and a two-month-old Rottweiler puppy require different dosages of the drug).
What criteria do you use to choose a flea and tick remedy?
Both drops and flea and tick collars have their benefits. If you are unsure whether your choice is correct, it is best to consult your veterinarian. When selecting, the following rules must be observed:
- take into account the age and body weight of the animal: for each product, the manufacturer indicates the specifics of use for animals of different age categories and weights. Thus, the “BARS” flea and tick collar can be used on puppies from 2 months of age (for convenience, they can have a length of 35, 50 and 80 cm for dogs of different sizes);
- make sure that your dog has no contraindications to the product you have chosen;
- Do not use flea and tick products if you suspect your dog's behavior or health. Poor appetite, lethargy, drowsiness and other signs are a contraindication to the use of both the collar and drops. Contact your veterinarian to find out the reasons and only then, together with a specialist, decide on the advisability of wearing a collar or using drops in the near future;
- Do not use drops and a collar with the same active ingredients at the same time. If you want to increase protection, treat your dog with a spray. The concentration of substances in the spray is much lower than in drops or a collar;
- You can use collars and drops from different pharmaceutical groups at the same time, for example, drops with an insectoacaricide and a collar with a repellent. Since the substances work in different directions, there will be no negative impact from their combination.

Many cat owners prefer to get rid of the problem using oral medications and injections. These products contain special components that inhibit the reproduction of blood-sucking insects. The duration of action of the tablet lasts for 1 month, and flea injections for cats must be given once every six months. To choose the right remedy, you must consult a doctor who will prescribe treatment after examining the animal. Flea tablets and injections are contraindicated for pregnant and lactating cats, as well as weakened pets.
In the arsenal of veterinary medicine there are also special ointments that are used to kill fleas in cats. The product must be used in accordance with the doctor’s recommendations and the accompanying instructions.
You can choose the most effective flea remedy and rid your cat of dangerous parasites by contacting a veterinarian who has complete information about the features of each drug. In this case, it will be possible to rid the animal of bloodsuckers quickly and without harm to its health. To avoid relapses, preventive measures should be taken and the behavior of your pet should be closely monitored.
Selecting the right type of product
Flea treatments are always chosen according to the specific situation:
- To prevent infection of the animal, collars and drops on the withers are suitable. These flea control products have a fairly gentle effect on the pet itself, rarely lead to side effects, but at the same time reliably repel fleas.
- If the animal has few fleas, the best remedy against fleas is a collar or drops.
- In case of severe parasite infestation, it is necessary to resort to the use of special flea sprays or shampoos.
- For pets that regularly go outside but live in the city, collars are suitable. You can remove them at home, and the animal’s skin on the neck will not be irritated.
- Animals that are taken to the country for a long period of time need to have drops applied to their necks.
- Kittens and puppies over the age of one month can be bathed with special shampoos. Grown-up cubs can be treated with drops and put flea collars on them.
- It is not recommended to use any insecticides at all on lactating and pregnant cats and dogs. Only if the infection is too severe, threatening serious damage to the offspring, can you use special drops or bathe the animal with shampoos.
In general, shampoos are the best products for cats. A feature of high-breed animals is the excellent appearance of the coat, and the use of collars and drops can lead to its deterioration.
Important!
The least allergenic are shampoos and aerosols. Collars and drops can cause serious skin irritation, including dermatitis. Aerosols and shampoos are single-acting agents, and therefore rarely lead to skin reactions. Shampoos should be used for animals with particularly sensitive skin.
