Say goodbye to cockroaches: tips for protecting your home from whiskered insects

Why do cockroaches appear in an apartment: reasons for their appearance, how to get rid of them

Many people shudder at the sight of cockroaches. To that extent, these insects look unattractive. “Stasikov” is associated with unsanitary conditions and dirt. Seeing uninvited guests in the house, the owners are perplexed as to where the cockroaches in the apartment come from and, using all available means, declare war on them, in which one or the other wins with varying success. Even constantly putting things in order in the room is not always able to save you from their invasion.

Mobile phones, computers and microwave ovens

It is believed that cockroaches are afraid of radiation from mobile phones, computers and microwave ovens. And it is completely justified. Over the past 10-15 years, the above devices have become part of our lives. Apartments and offices are full of various equipment. When it works, an electromagnetic field is generated in the room. It creates unfavorable living conditions for the Prussians. Scientists are still discussing the effects of radio frequencies on animals and humans. Every year there is more and more evidence that they have a negative impact. Perhaps this is why sensitive cockroaches disappeared from high-rise buildings. By the way, for some reason there are no Prussians in those areas where the old GPRS and GSM standards work, that is, in Russia and in most neighboring countries.

Where do cockroaches live?

For a favorable existence, these individuals need enough food, warmth and humidity. They feed on leftover food, wallpaper paste, paper, cardboard, excrement, and soap. It is generally accepted that, first of all, they appear in cluttered and poorly cleaned kitchen areas. But this doesn't always happen. Cockroaches are able to cover a distance of 1 km in a day. It is the speed of movement, the ability to live for several days without food, their habits and nocturnal lifestyle that help them penetrate any room and reproduce at tremendous speed. They can crawl into a room simply from the street. The most favorite places to live are places where there is water. They need it vitally. From non-residential premises:

  • warehouses;
  • basements;
  • catering units;
  • the shops.

In apartments they are found:

  1. In kitchens near the sink, trash cans and drainage pipes. Cockroaches can live no more than 2 weeks without water. During the day they hide behind the refrigerator, gas stove, baseboards, and hanging cabinets, and at night they crawl out of their shelters in search of food.
  2. The bathroom and toilet are also loved by these infection-carrying insects. They hide behind the toilet, behind the sink, in the cracks between the floor and the wall, under the bathtub near the pipes, in the ventilation. Their presence can be detected by the black dots (excrement) and chitinous dried skins left behind.
  3. Cockroaches are constantly looking for sources of food, so they crawl into bedrooms if cookie crumbs, leftover tea and coffee in mugs are found there. During the day they hide under mattresses, in the crevices of closets, in shoe boxes, behind baseboards.
  4. In household appliances. “Barbels” love to settle in computer equipment: monitors, laptops, system units. You can drive them out of there only by disassembling the device; boric acid is not suitable as a means of control in this case.
  5. In the microwave. Oddly enough, “stasiks” live in microwave ovens, eating leftover food. If cockroaches are infested, the equipment is warmed up for half an hour, taken out into the cold (but the device itself may deteriorate), and balls of boiled yolk with boric acid rolled inside are placed there. But this is done in those moments when the oven is not in use.

Reasons for appearance and survival

Cockroaches are comfortable living in unsanitary conditions. Cockroaches appear in apartments where it is dirty, humid and warm. The conditions they need are:

  1. Food. They eat not only foods suitable for human consumption, but also rotten ones. A cockroach feeds on a drop of wallpaper glue for a week. Cockroaches feast on the dirty stove and dishes in the sink. They can feed on skin and paper soaked in fat.
  2. Water. These unpleasant creatures are unable to survive without water. But a cockroach can get drunk from an animal’s bowl, the tray of a flower pot, an accidentally spilled puddle on a table or tile, or a sink covered with droplets of water.
  3. Warm. It is the third important factor for the comfortable living of cockroaches. It feels comfortable at a temperature suitable for human habitation, and when it drops to sub-zero temperatures, the cockroach colony dies. This is one of the popular ways to get rid of hated parasites.

Attention! If all these factors are present, cockroaches take root and reproduce at tremendous speed.

Fighting methods

If cockroaches are found in the house, a disinfectant general cleaning is carried out. To get rid of them, insects are deprived of the necessary living conditions. They thoroughly wash places where they may accumulate, do not leave dirty dishes or bread crumbs on the table, wipe the sink dry, get rid of leaking risers, and take out the trash every day. Against barbels they use:

  1. Repellent traps. Ultrasound repels insects. But in reality, traps are not very effective.
  2. Boric acid. Boric acid powder is scattered under the sink, along the perimeter of the kitchen along the baseboards or mixed with boiled yolk, rolled into balls and placed in places where cockroaches accumulate, in ventilation shafts, under refrigerators.
  3. Gels. They go on sale in tubes or syringes. They have an attractive odor to cockroaches, but a poisonous composition. Apply around the perimeter of the kitchen. When living in an apartment, pets should be used with caution and applied precisely in places inaccessible to pets.
  4. Crayons "Mashenka". They draw a solid line 2 cm wide around the perimeter of the room. One infected "barbel" brings death to the entire colony.
  5. Aerosols. They are not successful due to human inhalation of sprayed vapors and harmful insects becoming accustomed to their components.
  6. Sticky houses. They have a smell that attracts “stasiks”; they are smeared with an adhesive substance on the inside. The cockroach crawls into the trap, sticks and cannot get out. The dead carcass of one individual does not frighten others, they crawl based on the smell and in one night the house can be completely filled with dead cockroaches.
  7. SES. These services professionally combat cockroaches, bedbugs and other pests. They have special equipment and special means in their arsenal. But when using toxic substances, it is necessary to observe safety precautions and thoroughly rinse all surfaces after chemical treatment.
  8. Freezing. Sub-zero temperatures are detrimental to barbels. To get rid of “stasiks”, pieces of furniture (sofas) that they have chosen are taken out into the cold or the room is left unheated (private house). At -10 degrees, insects die.

Why do they appear again?

The cockroach is a very tenacious insect and over time develops immunity to poisons. Seeing an insect lying with its paws on top, they do not throw it into the trash can, and then wonder why cockroaches appear again. They need to be drowned in the toilet, because after a while the individual can wake up and crawl away and breed a new generation. If the premises have favorable living conditions: water, food and warmth, the cockroaches will return. The second reason is that many poisons kill only adults, but are harmless to eggs. The generation that subsequently hatches will multiply and form a new colony.

Food

Yes, we really have problems with food. GMOs and additives are what people use to destroy themselves. Some say that GMOs and modern food do not pose any danger, while some scientists insist that after several generations a person will not be able to reproduce healthy offspring.

Large-scale experiments on human intervention in the genetic code have brought disappointing conclusions. Scientists are confident that the Prussians disappeared due to regular food poisoning from the human table. But there is a slight discrepancy here. Why are cockroaches not averse to settling in food warehouses? After all, the same products are there.

What kind of species are white cockroaches?

It’s interesting that Wikipedia doesn’t say anything about this cockroach, why? It turns out that there is simply no such insect, there is a red cockroach, there is a black cockroach, but there is no white cockroach. So what kind of insect is this? The white cockroach is not a new species of cockroach, it is not even a mutant, not an albino cockroach that evolved from a red or black cockroach. This is an ordinary red cockroach during the molting period.

But why do they so rarely catch our eye?

  • Firstly, while the cockroach is molting, it is less mobile, which means it is more exposed to danger, so during such periods of its life it hides. By the way, they hide anywhere, for example, they can get into a washing machine, a cabinet, and even a vacuum cleaner, or any electrical appliances.
  • Secondly, the molting process is short, about one day, and white cockroaches become ordinary again.
  • Thirdly, only young cockroaches molt, they are still small and not so bold, but after molting they already turn into adult cockroaches, gaining brown pigment and impudence.

Despite their youth and defenselessness, white cockroaches, thanks to physiological processes inside their bodies, become voracious. And despite their fear, under the cover of darkness they emerge from their hiding places in search of food. At this time, white cockroaches are much more vulnerable, so even a small contact of toxic chemicals on their body causes death.

Poison and insecticide

Perhaps the cockroaches were scared of the Chinese poison. Although unlikely, if you remember the nineties.

At first the insects disappeared, but then they adapted to the poison and returned again. Although it is quite possible that the current poison is much more effective than the previous one. Since science does not stand still, man has managed to create really strong insecticides. And this is a really serious blow to the Prussians (unlike the traditional poison that we use ourselves). By turning to disinfectants, you can be sure that uninvited guests will leave the walls of your home for a long time.

GET

An innovative product that differs from analogues in its consistency - the active substance is contained in microscopic capsules. They remain active for a long time, and upon contact with cockroaches and other insects, they burst, after which the poison enters the pest’s body. This method allows you to increase the effectiveness of the drug and its durability.

The product is diluted in water at a ratio of 1 to 5 to 1 to 10, the resulting mixture is used to treat rooms using the barrier method. After treatment, the room should be ventilated for 2-4 hours. GET insecticide has the following advantages:

  • no toxic effects on humans or pets;
  • no unpleasant odor;
  • does not provoke allergies;
  • depending on the conditions, the product remains active for 6-16 months;
  • completely transparent consistency, so there are no stains.

The active substance is chlorpyrifos, which affects the internal organs of insects, effectively destroying pests.

All these tools can be successfully combined with each other to achieve the desired result. You can also use various folk remedies - boric acid, freezing or any other. Together they will completely clear your home of cockroaches and stop their further appearance.

Natural selection

There is an opinion that cockroaches lost the war with a stronger enemy. Perhaps they were forced out of Russian apartments by pharaoh ants, which are distinguished by their tenacity.

By the way, the disappearance of the Prussians worried scientists so much that there was a proposal to include them in the Red Book. Can you imagine? But biologists and scientists can understand - cockroaches managed to survive in any conditions for millions of years! They learned to adapt to the poisons that people poisoned them with. So what happened to them now?

But what is it really like?

Disinfectors only smile sarcastically at all these attacks about the disappearance of cockroaches. They know that the insects did not even think about dying.

“Mustachioed guests” still settle in places where there is a lot of garbage and dirt. There are plenty of them in dormitories, garbage cans, and also in apartments where the owners are not concerned about cleaning and cleanliness. And if you go down to the basement, you will be surprised at how vibrant life is in full swing there!

Although the number of sanitary treatments has indeed decreased in recent years, this does not mean that the Prussians have suffered in any way or gone extinct. They simply “moved” to calmer, quieter and damper places.

How cockroaches get into the house

"Barbels" quickly adapt to any environment, reproducing at tremendous speed. The owners make considerable efforts to destroy them. There are many reasons why cockroaches appear. If order is maintained in the house and unsanitary conditions are eliminated, these insects enter the home:

  • from new neighbors;
  • crawl out of the garbage chute.

They are delivered home:

  • From the job;
  • from the shop;
  • hospitals;
  • kindergarten;
  • from mail;
  • from the guests.

Attention! Cockroaches are carriers of infection. On their paws and abdomens they carry eggs of worms and infectious diseases onto dishes, kitchen utensils and various surfaces.

Creeping from neighbors

If cockroaches appear in an apartment from neighbors who have recently moved (especially from hostels, where it is almost impossible to destroy “stasiks”), who are doing renovations or harassing uninvited residents, you must:

  • simultaneously destroy the tenants;
  • seal all cracks and holes;
  • do not leave the sink damp overnight;
  • apply various control measures using powders, crayons and gels.

From the sewer or garbage chute

These individuals belong to the most dangerous representatives of the cockroach breed, as they spread various infectious diseases, entering residential premises through toilets, sewer pipes, and drains. You can get rid of them only with the help of special services and means; home methods of dealing with them are powerless. Insects will hide in the drain holes. Often the sources of the appearance of “barbels” in apartments are garbage chutes located in the entrances. Here, the help of the SES or constantly changing means is also needed.
