How to make a mouse trap with your own hands

Mice and rats cause a lot of trouble both to owners of private houses and residents of multi-storey buildings. The trouble is that they can chew things, damage furniture and food. In addition, they spread dangerous infectious diseases such as rabies, plague and many others. The likelihood of their occurrence is especially high where there are garbage chutes, accumulation of rubbish in the yard or in the entrance, and where sanitary standards are not observed. Rodents can also appear at the dacha, where they can easily profit from fruits, vegetables and other fruits of the owners’ labor. To successfully combat these rodents, you need reliable means, including special anti-rodent glue.

Jar

You will need a jar with a capacity of 1-1.5 liters, a coin with a face value of 5 kopecks, a small cardboard, and bait. The simplest version of a mousetrap. Place the bait on the cardboard. Place the jar upside down on top. Place a coin edgewise on one side and place the edge of the jar on it.

The bait should be slightly larger than a coin. Catching a mouse in a jar is very simple. At the sight of food, the rodent will rush to get it - there will be no obstacles in this. But when the mouse begins to drag the food with it, touches the coin, the jar drops, and the mouse finds itself in a trap.

The only way the mousetrap might not work is if the animal decides to eat everything at once, and it will crawl back out on its own. To avoid such an event, the trap should be slightly improved.

The bait is glued with tape at a height of 3 cm from the neck. The edge of the can is placed on the side with the bait on the coin. The mouse climbs inside, lifts itself up, leaning on the jar to get to the food. The coin falls and the mouse is trapped.

On a note!

You can catch a mouse in the house in this way using a flower pot, a deep bowl, or any suitable container. It is better to use smoked sausage, fried lard, and chips as bait.

Complements other methods

Using mouse and rat glue in combination with mechanical traps will help catch those parasites that have learned to run quickly. Use both methods next to each other.

You may have been waging a war against a rodent for quite some time. Modern mice are extremely cunning, robbing ordinary bait traps without getting caught.

Some even jump over them on their way. Strategically placed glue traps will result in successful capture. Place the glue one next to the other one, and when the mouse jumps over the mechanical one, the glue will stop it.

Plastic bottle

You can catch a mouse in an apartment with a bottle of mineral water or any drink. Pour a few tablespoons of vegetable oil onto the bottom and spread on the sides. The bait is laid out in the form of fried seeds. The smell in the bottle will last a long time and spread throughout the room. Catching mice in a bottle is very convenient, since you can catch several of them.

The bottle is placed at an angle. Books work well as a basis. You can lay out 3 books in steps and secure the edge of the bottle with tape. Just in case the trap did not tip over prematurely, the mouse did not escape.

The mouse crawls up the steps into the bottle following the smell of the fragrant bait. It gets inside, readily eats, and the slippery vegetable oil does not allow it to get out. Another poor fellow joins her. If you're lucky, you'll catch 3 at once. You can catch them all one by one.

On a note!

The trap is placed near the shelf, on the steps. In such a place mice are caught very quickly. The narrow neck of the bottle is not a hindrance for them.

A glass beer bottle is used for the same purpose. The aroma of brewer's yeast is very attractive to mice. By placing the trap at a slight slope, you can easily catch a mouse without a mousetrap, without killing it, without using additional bait.

Hygienic

The glue used is made from natural or synthetic substances that are not toxic to humans. This means you are not using harmful chemicals or poisons. They can be safely placed at home or in the workplace.

Another advantage is that it effectively catches not only the mouse, but also any ticks that may be attached to its body.

The mites, trying to leave the mouse's body, get caught in the glue. You eliminate two pests at the same time. Particularly suitable for high-risk environments, such as clinics and kitchens, where infection and contamination must be eliminated as quickly as possible.

Bucket

Catching mice at home with a bucket is the most exciting activity. There are several options for successful traps.

  • Line the bucket with newspaper and secure the edges with tape. A cross-shaped cut is made in the center. Sprinkle the bait. In this case, grains, cereals, flour, and seeds are suitable. A stick, a board, and a ruler are placed next to the bucket and will serve as a ladder. The mouse easily climbs the ladder, tries to get to the bait, the newspaper tears, the mouse falls. If you pour water into a bucket, the animal will drown, and you won’t have to worry about what to do with the caught mouse.
  • The bucket is filled with water, not reaching 3 cm to the edge. Add a few tablespoons of vegetable oil. Husks, straw, and dry leaves are sprinkled on top so that no water is visible. Scatter grain, seeds, cereals. You can lure it with fragrant bait. They put up a ladder. The trap works in a similar way. But the advantage is that you can catch several pests at once. One victim drowns, the top layer of the trap quickly recovers, and another rodent follows the scent. So, until morning comes, rodent activity will decrease.
  • Cut off the bottom and neck of a plastic bottle and grease it with vegetable oil. The bait is glued to the center with tape. Thread the stick through and place it on the edge of a bucket of water. The animal crawls into the bottle, tries to get to the bait, the bottle spins, falls along with the stick into the bucket.

Another option for a bucket trap if the mouse likes to crawl on tables. Place the ruler on the edge of the table so that most of it hangs down. A bucket is placed under it. Place it on the edge of the ruler. The rodent runs towards the food, unaware of anything, and falls into the bucket. You can kill the mouse yourself or leave it to the cat. Many people simply catch them.

Making a trap with your own hands

It’s not difficult to assemble a glue mousetrap with your own hands; you need to:

  • select the surface of the desired size;
  • squeeze anti-rat glue onto the prepared tray;
  • distribute the composition over the surface (with a spatula or brush);
  • strengthen the bait in the center of the tray;
  • fix the trap on the floor - rats can move along with a small tray.

When installing the trap, you must use rubber gloves to protect your hands and clothing (it is difficult to wipe off the glue). For more effective use, catching mice with a trap should be combined with other methods of control (repellence).

From the video you will learn a lot of new things:

In case of contact with glue:

  • for several rodents, the mousetrap needs to be removed and a new one installed in its place;
  • one or 2 animals - they should be removed with tongs; reuse the trap.

In non-residential premises, the composition is applied in strips to wooden planks that are attached to the floor.

Complex designs

You can catch the mouse yourself using a special trap, the invention of which will take a little effort.

  • A house for catching mice is made of mesh. Make an oblong box. The sides are secured with wire. One side will be the door. It should open from top to bottom. Attached with a spring. A hook with bait is placed on the opposite side; it is held on a strong thread, which holds the door at the other end. Smoked sausage, lard, chocolate, and meat are used as bait. A mouse crawls in, tries to pull off the bait, the thread breaks, and the door closes.
  • A box without a top is made from wooden planks. There is a bridge made of small planks. In the center they touch each other, on the other edge they are fixed with hinges. A roof is made separately, which is placed freely on top. Windows are made on both sides so that when a mouse makes its way through the hole, it gets onto the bridge. The bait is hung on the roof in the center. To get to it, the animal must walk along the bridge to the edge. Under the weight of the animal, it tips over and quickly returns to its original position. It is possible to catch all the pests one by one. A living person can be pulled out of the box and fed to the cat.

Mouse houses are made from a variety of materials. You just have to use your imagination a little and show your carpentry skills - and the trap is ready.

The art of catching without a mousetrap

If the location of the pests is known, you can lure the mouse out with bait with a strong odor. Contrary to popular belief, cheese is not in the first place for rodents. Pests react sharply to smoked meats, nuts, heavily roasted seeds, seasoned crackers, chips, lard burnt with a match. You can lure them out of their hiding place with the following ingredients.

You can find a mouse in complete silence and twilight. Animals are afraid of loud sounds and cannot tolerate bright light. They get used to the smell of a person in the house, so they are not particularly afraid of it.

To catch a mouse, you should arm yourself with a medium-sized towel. Hide in the corner, quietly wait for the pest to appear from under the closet. Quickly throw on a towel and press.

This option for catching rodents is suitable if you are interested in showing your ingenuity, testing your reaction speed, or if the pest cannot be caught in any other way.

To catch rodents, it is enough to show a little skill, resort to imagination, and figure out where rodents like to hunt.

Mice appear in residential areas, exploring available areas in search of food and convenient places to establish a permanent burrow. It is not difficult for a nimble rodent to get into an apartment or house. But a mouse will settle in a dwelling for a long time only if it considers it a comfortable habitat. Such a neighborhood is ruinous and dangerous for humans. After all, mice spoil food and things, and are also carriers of many serious diseases.

It is necessary to take measures to expel mice from the home immediately. If using poison or a mousetrap is not possible, homemade traps are built to “catch” rodents. They are easy to make using a piece of food bait, as well as a jar, bottle, box or bucket. An alternative to traps is special devices that repel rodents with an ultrasonic signal and electromagnetic waves.

Reasons for the presence of rodents in the house

You can find out about the presence of mice in the house by a number of signs:

  • scattered food scraps;
  • tousled products, gnawed packaging;
  • teeth marks on various interior items;
  • excrement left by rodents (small, black dry “peas”);
  • gnawed holes in baseboards and wooden partitions;
  • rustling, rustling and squeaking noises coming from the kitchen at night.

Mice enter living spaces in search of food and places where they can set up their permanent “house” and start a family.

In residential apartment buildings, they can easily get from basements even to the upper floors along ceilings and ventilation shafts.

Mice often appear in grocery stores located on the ground floors of residential buildings due to non-compliance with sanitation rules. From there, the rodents are already “settled” in nearby apartments.

Which one is better to buy for your home? Look at the overview of popular models.

There is a page written about what and how to clean the burnt bottom of a stainless steel pan.

There are important reasons why mice do not enter the house, but remain in it for a long time:

  • Food and water constantly available in the public domain. This could include trash cans that are not covered, cookies, candy, fruit on tables, or pet food and water in bowls. Having found a large amount of easy prey once, the mouse will come for it a second time to the same place.
  • There are “secret” places in the apartment (or nearby) that rodents evaluate as safe for making a nest. These are old cabinets or closets, holes, convenient recesses or recesses in the dilapidated walls of old houses, from where it is easy to go into the apartment for food. Mice hideouts can be hidden under floorboards.
  • Poor home hygiene, when crumbs, leftovers, pieces of food are scattered around the kitchen and house, and puddles of food and water are spilled.

Mice are quite smart and are able to assess how often the owner looks into a “secluded” corner before settling in there for a long time.

Rules for using the adhesive composition

Using the substance is not difficult; you can carry out the process yourself. To do this, you must follow the instructions:

  1. Take a piece of smooth and flat material - cardboard or plastic - no smaller than 10x10 cm for mice and 25x20 for rats. For the latter, it is additionally advisable to attach the selected material to the floor using self-tapping screws, otherwise the animal may drag the entire trap with it and stain the room with an adhesive substance.

    A cardboard sheet is perfect for applying the adhesive composition.

  2. When fighting mice, you should lubricate the substrate with glue in strips 1-2 cm wide, maintaining a distance between them of up to 4-5 cm.
  3. To catch rats, stripes are drawn wider and at a greater distance. The substance acquires irreversible stickiness half an hour after application.
  4. It is recommended to place bait in the middle of the trap, for example bread soaked in vegetable oil.

Rat traps should be placed in places where victims are more likely to appear - in corners, next to walls and partitions, directly next to burrows, at a distance of 3 to 15 m from each other, based on the volume of the room, its clutter with furniture and the number of pests .

For maximum effectiveness of a glue trap for rats, you need to place it in places where rodents are often found.

At the same time, it is necessary to ensure isolation from children and animals and minimize contamination of the sticky surface; therefore, it is safer to place traps under furniture, inclined towards walls or in special bait houses.

Glue traps must be inspected frequently to see if new animals have been caught and, if this happens, replaced with fresh ones.

If the trap is used for rats, then it is enough to examine it once a day. This is explained by the fact that the caught animal will emit danger signals (squeaking), which is why its fellow tribesmen will avoid this place. But when mice are caught using glue, this factor turns out to be insignificant - these rodents easily run into the trap in a group in a short period of time. Mice are much less cautious animals than their larger relatives; therefore, several victims often fall into one trap at a time.

Harm and danger to humans

Mice in an apartment are not only an unpleasant and repulsive sight. Unwanted “neighbors” cause real harm to the property of home owners, and also pose a danger to their health:

  • Mice gnaw everything they can get their teeth into (furniture, partitions, baseboards), ruin wallpaper, and clothes.
  • In search of food, they come not only to kitchens and places where human food supplies are stored. Mice are permanent inhabitants of dirty basements, garbage dumps, landfills, and garbage cans. These animals are carriers of pathogenic bacteria, microbes, and spreaders of life-threatening viral diseases.

On a note!

Like all rodents, mice reproduce very quickly in comfortable conditions. One healthy female produces offspring of 15-20 mice per year. Already at three months they are full-fledged adults, beginning to reproduce independently. If urgent measures are not taken to exterminate rodents in the apartment, they will completely take over it in a very short time.

How to catch mice without a mousetrap

If you need to catch or drive away mice without using a mousetrap or poison, you can design your own traps, once in which the rodents will not be able to get out.

Traps

To make the simplest “mouse” traps, you will need food bait and a container that will serve as a future “prison” for the rodent:

  • Bottle.
    A deep bottle will do (preferably with a capacity of 1.5-2 liters). Its upper part from the inside (and as far as you can reach into the depth) is lubricated with vegetable oil. A fragrant bait is placed at the bottom of the bottle. The trap is placed in such a way that it is convenient for the mouse to climb into it, but impossible to get out. To do this, the bottle is placed at a steep angle, and if necessary, a “bridge” is made to the neck. Once inside, the animal cannot get out, as it slides along the oily walls.
  • Box.
    The design should work in such a way that the mouse is covered on top by the box. To do this, glue a thread to the bottom of the inside of the box (in the center), on which a treat for the rodent is strung. The sides of the box are placed on shaky supports, which collapse at the slightest shift. Attracted by the bait, the mouse climbs under the box, pulls the thread with food, this causes the supports to collapse, and the trap box covers the rodent.
  • Bank on the edge of a coin.
    This trap is designed according to the box principle. The coin acts as a shaky support, which falls at the right moment, and the jar covers the rodent. To lure a mouse, a piece of food is glued inside the jar on the wall. Trying to take the food, the mouse moves the jar, the coin falls, and the trap slams shut.
  • Deep capacity.
    A simple but effective trap is a deep container, such as a 3-4-5 liter jar or bucket. An appetizing bait is placed at the bottom, and access to the “entrance” is made easier - for example, so that the mouse can jump inside or “climb” to the edge of the container using a specially placed device. The mouse falls into the bucket, but due to the height of the walls it cannot get out.

The box and jar are placed directly on cardboard (or a piece of plywood) so that it is convenient to turn it over and carry away the trap with the mouse, using the cardboard as a lid.

Find out how to choose a household appliance and what the device is needed for.

The rules and methods for freezing vegetables for the winter are written on the page.

More “severe” versions of homemade traps (as a result the caught animal dies) are constructed using glue and water:

  • A board or cardboard is thickly greased with long-drying viscous glue, and bait is placed in the center of the trap. A mouse attracted by food gets stuck in the glue and is then thrown away along with the trap.
  • A bucket with high walls is filled halfway with water, and the top is covered with newspaper or paper with a cross-shaped cut. Food for the rodent is placed in the center of the paper, making it easier for the mouse to approach the food. When an animal walks onto a sheet of paper, it falls into the water and drowns.

Pieces of meat, cheese, cookies, bread, sausage, cereals, and seeds are used as bait. Place mouse traps in places where they frequently visit - traditionally, in the kitchen.

Repellers

A modern device for getting rid of mice in an apartment or house is an ultrasonic (US) rodent repeller.

Operating principle of the ultrasound device:

  • the emitted ultrasonic waves affect the nervous system and brain of rodents (, rats), causing panic fear in animals;
  • as a result, they immediately leave the area affected by the signal;
  • The operation of the device is completely safe for people and pets.

More modern models are combined devices that additionally influence mice using electromagnetic waves. They independently change the frequency of signals, preventing mice from adapting to the effects. Regular use of a repeller can completely expel mice from an apartment, residential building, or summer cottage (within 2-3 weeks the rodents leave the area).

Sometimes an ordinary cat, which is traditionally considered a “mouse catcher,” becomes an excellent “repealer” of mice. But it has been noted that many domestic cats, due to the availability of daily food and a “lazy” life, have lost their hunting instincts, and mice have ceased to be afraid of them.

The best preventative measures against mice infestation in your home are cleanliness and timely repairs:

  • do not leave food in accessible places, store food supplies in tightly closed containers and kitchen cabinets;
  • use a trash can with a tight lid, throw out garbage every day, do not leave it overnight;
  • do not keep accessible food for cats and dogs on the floor at all times;
  • maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining room, food pantries;
  • carry out preventive inspection and cleaning of cabinets and chests of drawers;
  • inspect the integrity of baseboards, wooden partitions, and walls in the room.

If traces of intrusion by uninvited guests are detected, measures should be taken immediately to “capture” them.

Fighting mice in your home is often difficult work, since rodents are tenacious and multiply quickly. Comprehensive measures will be most effective: carrying out repair work, isolating products, maintaining cleanliness along with placing bait traps and using deterrent devices.

If you once again find chewed bags of cereals, flour or sugar, it means that an uninvited guest has settled in your house. Moreover, he has settled in perfectly and lives for his own pleasure. Rodents, and especially mice, are carriers of a huge number of diseases and infections. Not to mention the fact that the mouse frightens children and women with its presence.

Rat glue: review of the most effective

Before using glue, you need to choose a suitable place to install the trap. This should be a “path” - a path along which animals move especially often. It is advisable to place mouse bait on the product; it can be cereal or bread. The trap must be installed in a place where foreign objects will not fall on its surface: branches, leaves and other debris.

Let's look at the most popular and effective glue samples.

Alt

Buy

ALT glue for rats and mice looks like a transparent, colorless and odorless gel-like substance. The substance is not toxic, but it cannot be ingested even in small quantities, since the drug will stick together the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, which will lead to necrosis. ALT glue is produced in metal tubes with a volume of 135 grams.

ALT anti-rat and mouse repellent contains 9.6% polybutylene, 9.6% cyclosan and 80.8% polyisobutylene. The cost of a tube is 150-250 rubles. However, since only 15-20 grams of the substance need to be applied to one plate, this price is quite low. The product is available in the form of a gel in metal tubes. It is an excellent alternative to poisons in conditions where the use of toxic substances is impossible or dangerous.

Use glue according to instructions. ALT rodent repellent glue should only be applied to a clean surface. The finished trap should be placed in a place where there is no debris, dust or moisture, so that foreign objects do not fall on the surface. It is advisable to place tasty bait in the center of the trap. The sheet should be checked once a week. The mouse and trap can be thrown away or buried in the ground.

Suitable for exterminating parasites in clinics, hospitals, vegetable stores, food factories, schools, kindergartens and other high-security places. The product should be kept away from children. Although safe, it should not be applied to the skin. The glue should be stored at a temperature of 5-30°C.

Thanks to the adhesive substance, the mouse sticks tightly and is completely immobilized. The animal dies within a few days from thirst and hunger. Therefore, you need to check it every 2-3 days, and at least once a week. The caught rodent is disposed of along with the plate to which it stuck.

Review. Samuel, Odintsovo:

The adhesive abilities are impressive. The animal is glued so that the sheet can only be torn off together with the skin. When applying, do not try to smear the substance with a brush or especially with your finger. Then you won't be able to tear it off.

Review. Anastasia, Moscow:

What I like most is the ease of use. You can use the sides of a cardboard box or something else as a board. Another big plus is that it is harmless. I have a little daughter, she crawls everywhere and tastes everything, so poison cannot be used. We bought it from Leroy Merlin.

Clean house

The Clean House adhesive against mice and rats contains polyisobutylene, polybutylene, gum and cyclocaniol. It looks like a gel-like transparent viscous substance, packaged in metal tubes with a volume of 135 grams. The cost is about 150 rubles. “Clean House” is odorless, tasteless and non-toxic, but despite this, it is prohibited to ingest it.

To prepare, you need to take a sheet of cardboard or a board measuring 15 by 20 cm. The surface must be clean and dry. Apply 15-20 grams of product evenly onto it. It is prohibited to smear the “Clean House” mouse and rat repellent glue with anything (stick it).

After this, the “Clean House” needs to be placed where animals like to walk or eat. Choose a dust-free, dry room so that the surface of the plate does not become dirty and remains clean. To increase efficiency, place a little bait of cheese, cereal or bread in the middle.

Review. Evgeniy Genadievich, Moscow:

An excellent tool for gluing something tightly the first time. Not just a rat. As for the animals, they stick to honey like flies. Massively, enthusiastically and forever. Just throw them away right away, otherwise I didn’t throw one out in time, which is why I spent a whole week trying to get rid of the smell.

Kotofey

Kotofey glue is available in 135 gram tubes. The owner of the brand is the “Your Farm” trademark. The composition includes several components: polybutylene, cycloisan and polyisobutylene. All of them are non-toxic and safe for humans. The product has high stickiness, which remains for a long time.

To prepare, you need a 15 by 20 cm cardboard made of cardboard, plastic or wood. Its surface must be smooth, dry and clean. Apply 15-20 mg of the substance evenly onto the leaf. After which they place it where rodents walk or feed, but “Kotofey” cannot be spoiled by garbage or high humidity. The glue must be stored at a positive temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.

In addition, a ready-made “Kotofey” plate, developed on the basis of the glue of the same name, is available for sale. There is no need to prepare it, just remove it from the packaging and remove the protective film. The installation rules are the same as for a homemade trap. To increase efficiency, place a little bait in the center of the leaf.

Review. Marina Vitalievna, Saratov:

Great glue. It is colorless and odorless, applies well, and immediately has very strong adhesive properties. Be careful not to touch the substance when applying it. The product is economical, a few grams are enough for a small board.

Trap

“Kapkan” is an adhesive against rodents and insects, designed specifically for catching and disposing of them. The plate can immobilize a small rodent. It also effectively attracts insects: cockroaches, mosquitoes, bedbugs, ants and others. Does not contain toxic substances, so the product is safe for humans and children. But it can stick to a pet (cat, dog) and ruin their fur (it will have to be cut off).

Kapkan glue and insects should be stored at a temperature of 5 to 30oC. To catch and destroy animals, the board with glue applied must be placed in a clean, dry room where the surface of the sheet will not become clogged. To get rid of crawling insects, a trap is placed where they are most often observed. And to catch flying insects, hang them on the wall.

To increase efficiency, bait is placed in the middle of the sheet: cheese, cereal, bread. The mammal often sticks with its entire body, which is why it is completely immobilized. After this, within a few days the rodent dies from hunger and thirst. You need to check the trap every 2-3 days, but at least once a week.

Review. Konstantin, Novosibirsk:

I'll be happy to write a review. The product must be applied to a small flat plate. I usually use a cardboard box. The finished cardboard retains its properties for quite a long time. The rat is glued tightly.

How to understand that there is a mouse living in the house

  1. If there is a mouse in your house, you may hear it. From time to time she squeaks, scratches, gnaws and scratches. This is especially audible at night, when extraneous sounds in the house fade away.
  2. The most important indicator of an unwanted tenant in your home is chewed bags of cereals, damaged fabric bags in which dried fruits, nuts or other food supplies are stored. You may also see food debris or seed skins in the corners of the farthest drawers.
  3. In places where mice live most often, you can find rodent excrement. They are very easy to confuse with garbage - they are black and dry.
  4. Very often, in a house where a mouse lives, the baseboards are gnawed, holes are noticeable in the shaft, and there are significant gaps along the water pipes.
  5. If a mouse has been living in the house for several days, there will be a distinct mouse smell in the room.

Universal instructions for use

Glues for rats and mice are similar in their principle of action. To use them, you need to read the instructions for use.

The main stages of making a trap:

  1. The surface on which the adhesive mass will be applied must be cleaned of debris and dirt. It should be a flat platform, preferably without a slope. Interior items and clothing should be removed. It is necessary to lay a thin sheet of metal, plastic, or plywood on a wooden floor.
  2. Apply glue in a spiral to an area measuring 20x20 cm. The width of the applied strip should be up to 2 cm. The distance between the rings is 4 cm. To catch rats, the width of the rings must be increased.
  3. To make the trap more effective, it is necessary to place the bait closer to its center.

After installing the trap, you need to check it once a day. When rodents appear stuck to the prepared surface, they must be removed immediately, the torn glue must be added, and the bait must be renewed. If you do not remove the stuck rodent, it will begin to squeak to warn its relatives of danger.

How to get rid of a mouse

  1. Mousetrap.
    This is the most popular way to get rid of a mouse. You can buy a mousetrap at any hardware store. However, people are not always willing to use this device, mainly because of their humane feelings for the animal.
  2. Poison.
    To be sure to get rid of rodents in the house, you can use a special poison. It is full of strong aromas and flavors that attract mice. The rodent eats the poisoned treat and dies within a few hours. The disadvantage of this method of fighting mice is that it is not possible if there are animals or small children in the house.
  3. Glue.
    This is another “cruel” way to catch a mouse. Hardware stores sell special glue that is applied to a flat board or paper. The bait is placed in the center. When a mouse, with the intention of eating, approaches the treat, it simply sticks and cannot go anywhere else.
  4. Cat.
    Most modern cats have lost their natural abilities and skills to catch mice. And all because today they simply do not need to worry about their food - the owner will always feed them, no matter what happens. To get rid of mice, you need to starve your domestic cat for several days so that he can perform his immediate duties. If the cat is not at home, you can take it from friends or neighbors for a few days. Sometimes just the smell of a cat in an apartment is enough to prevent mice from appearing in a given room anymore.

Many people cannot catch mice using barbaric methods. When catching, they are guided by the goal - so that the animal does not die. After catching, they safely release the rodent away from the house so that it does not come again. But how to catch a mouse so that it stays alive? There are many trap designs for this, which you will now learn about.

  1. Take a plastic bottle from any drink, for example, Coca-Cola. Lubricate the inner walls of the bottle with vegetable oil. Place the bait inside and position the bottle at a 45 degree angle from the floor. To make it easier for the mouse to get into the bottle, place a small bridge in the form of a ruler or board for it. Once the animal gets inside, it will not be able to get back out, because crawling up the slippery surface is impossible.
  2. Take a box and attach a string to the center of its bottom. Hook the bait onto the other end of the rope. The rope should not be long. When you turn the box over, the bait should not touch the floor, it should hang in the air. Turn the box over and place its two edges on thin supports - pieces of cardboard or matches. The box must be very unstable. When the rodent wants to eat a treat, it will go inside the box, rise on its hind legs, grab the bait and pull it down. The supports will work and the box will cover the rodent.
  3. There is another interesting way to catch a mouse. Use a knitting needle to pierce the bottle through the lid and bottom so that the plastic container can easily spin around its axis. Fasten the ends of the knitting needle to the bucket so that the bottle freely rotates around its axis directly above the bucket. The edges of plastic containers are lubricated with products with an attractive smell. When the mouse wants to eat the bait, it will begin to climb onto the bottle, but will not keep its balance as it spins and falls into the bucket.
  4. For the next method of catching a mouse, you will need a large glass or 500 ml glass jar, as well as a coin. Place the glass so that the edge of the coin rests against the edges of the glass. First, you need to glue a piece of bait onto the inner edge of the glass container. When the mouse gets inside, it starts peeling food off the wall of the glass, the coin slides off the edge and the glass covers the rodent. All that remains is to carefully pull the mouse out of the inverted glass. To make this easier, you can pre-install the structure on thick cardboard. After catching the animal, simply lift the cardboard along with the glass.
  5. Well, the simplest trap design. Take a three-liter jar and place your rodent's favorite treats in it. All. The trap is ready. You need to build a stack of books near the jar so that the mouse can get inside. Once in the jar, she simply cannot get out.

If all the tricks do not help you catch a smart mouse, then you should use special devices that use ultrasound to scare away rodents within a radius of several tens of meters.

Where to set the trap

Special devices for catching mice are best placed in dark and secluded corners. Pay attention to where the mouse most often lives and where signs of its vital activity are recorded. It is best to place the trap near food supplies. The mouse is accustomed to the place where it feeds, so it will not suspect anything is wrong.

What to use as bait

As you know, mice are practically omnivores. They can be caught using any food. And the general belief that mice love cheese is just a myth. With the same pleasure, a mouse will eat both sausage and raw meat. After all, these products emit a strong aroma. The mouse is very good at catching seeds and cereals. Pay attention to which of your stocks suffered the most - buckwheat, oats, flour or peas? This may reveal the preferences of your uninvited guest. Favorite cereal is the best bait.

To ensure that there are no mice in the house, during repairs you need to carefully seal all the cracks and holes and hang a net on the shaft. Maintain hygiene - do not leave crumbs and leftover food on the table, in open drawers, or in the trash can. Cover the container with water - the mouse lives where it has access to clean water. These simple rules will help you protect your home not only from mice, but also from cockroaches.

Sometimes they can free themselves

If the intention is not to kill the rodents, but to release them somewhere far from the house, then this is possible by using a glue trap. Although the original design and purpose are not intended to be released, this is achieved with extreme care and vegetable oil or dry powder such as starch.

Be sure to wear rubber gloves, coat the mouse in oil or flour, and carefully release it before releasing it at least 5 miles from your home.

This is dangerous because there is a high risk of being bitten. Once trapped, they panic and experience severe stress. Any animal caught in such a situation can attack. So if you really want to release the mice alive, glue is not the best choice. Instead, use live capture jigs.

Video: how to catch a mouse without killing it

How to catch a mouse in the house? Mice are very annoying roommates. If mice appear in your house or apartment, it is advisable to get rid of them as soon as possible so that they do not start breeding.

After all, when their numbers increase exponentially, your headache will also increase.

Let's look at ways to get rid of these unpleasant rodents in your home.

1) First of all, you should think in advance about getting a cat

. By their nature, these animals are very peculiar. Thus, it has been noted that cats are better predators than males, whose brains completely turn off as spring approaches due to the onset of mating season.

But the other side of the coin is the fact that modern cats in big cities are not accustomed to hunting, since food is most often presented to them by the owners themselves on a cozy plate.

So you shouldn’t pamper your pet too much or choose other methods of getting rid of mice in your apartment.

2) The mousetrap has always been considered a very effective means

.
Now there are several varieties of them, but the most modern and effective is still the electric one
.
They also use old mechanical ones
that work on the spring principle.

Well, if you are a convinced humanist and do not want to kill a mouse, then use an adhesive mousetrap

. The rodent will stick to it, after which it will be easy to remove it from your home.

3) Mousetraps tend to act instantly; you will most likely learn about their operation when “the fish is hooked.” But there is still a possibility that it will only injure the animal, and it will go to the bowels of your apartment, or rather its walls, to die.

It is in order to avoid this trouble, which will lead to an unpleasant smell, that we can recommend using “old-fashioned methods”.

4) One of the long-used remedies for mice in the house is a glass jar

containers from two to three liters. Its walls need to be thoroughly lubricated with vegetable oil, although do not touch the first 5-10 centimeters from the neck.

Then, at the bottom of the jar, put bait with a strong smell that is attractive to rodents, preferably smoked food. Place the jar on an inclined plane or rest it on a stand.

When the mouse gets inside the jar, its paws, sliding along the lubricated walls of the vessel, will not allow it to get back out.

5) You can also build a mousetrap yourself from a cardboard box

. Simply cut off the edges of the box on one side, and prop up the resulting lid with matches or other breakable supports (such as spaghetti).

The mouse will climb inside the bait placed there and begin to scurry around, eating it. This is where the supports won’t hold up, breaking under the weight of the lid and hiding the mouse inside the trap.

True, this method is not reliable, since much depends on the accuracy of the calculations and the quality of the “trap” itself.

6) Some craftsmen manage to make a mouse trap from an empty paper towel roll. It is simply placed on the edge of the table, and rodent bait is placed at the end that hangs from this very edge.

There is a bucket under the table at this time

. The mouse will climb inside, begin to eat the bait and, under its own weight, quickly go into the trash in the literal sense of the word.

It will be even more difficult for her to get out of the bucket if you smear its walls with vegetable oil, as we did before in the case of a jar.

7) You can make a trap from a plastic bottle

. We just cut off the bottom. We make notches and bend them inward. The mouse will climb inside, lured by the bait, but will no longer be able to get out, since the teeth will push against it.

It is a mistake to think that rodents are attracted to cheese - this is all a stereotype that has nothing to do with the truth and most likely imposed by children's cartoons.

It is best if you store all the cereals and grains for preparing your favorite dishes in containers with a tight lid, and not in ordinary plastic bags.

Remember that even people living in apartments on the upper floors are not immune from the appearance of mice in the house. These animals, especially on the eve of winter, are looking for a place where they will be warm, comfortable and fed. So no one is safe

.

Remember that poison

added to mice's food
is not
always effective
. Rodents usually just don’t die right away from it.

And if this happens when they crawl into the hole, it will be very difficult to remove the foul-smelling body. It is quite possible that your expensive repairs will suffer greatly from this...

If you still use mousetraps

, then install several of them. This will increase the likelihood of catching a mouse, and if it is already more than one, it can guarantee you greater speed and efficiency in catching unwanted roommates.

We wish you that you don’t have to use the suggested tips, but if you still couldn’t avoid the appearance of mice in your home, then they will come in handy!

If you suddenly become the unwitting neighbor of a small gray rodent and this neighborhood categorically does not suit you, then this material will be an excellent help in solving the problem. Among the methods described, you will surely find one suitable for your case. There are humane methods that leave the pest alive. Some, on the contrary, do not give him a chance to survive. The choice is yours.

Glue traps for rats and mice

Popular, but will only be effective where 1-2 mice appear. Sticky traps do not have a distinctive smell, so rodents quickly adapt to the traps and learn to avoid them. And homemade mice repellents dry quickly and disintegrate under the influence of oxygen, so their use is justified in combination with other methods of catching mice. For example, you can put poison, rather than grain, next to the glue plate. The animal will definitely fall into one of the traps.

Rodentoff

Adhesive plates are designed to catch small pests. The glue sheets are quite thin, so they are difficult to see on the floor. The adhesive retains its properties at temperatures from +5 to +30 °C. One mousetrap is used in an area of no more than 10-30 square meters.

It is advisable to pour 15-20 g of grain into the center of the plate, which will quickly lure the rodent. The composition on the sheet is safe for humans, does not emit an aroma, and is non-toxic, but pets can stick to it.

Mr. Mouse

Traps are made on the basis of glue of the same name. The base has a size of 20x15 cm, which is designed for a couple of rodents. Additionally, you can purchase Mr. Mouse glue and make a few more traps on cardboard. It is enough to apply 20 g of the composition onto one cardboard sheet, while one tube contains 135 g.

The Mister Mouse trap does not contain any chemicals. The main component is polyisobutylene, which is responsible for gluing. Additional components: rubber, petroleum oils, food flavoring.

The product can be used to kill insects.

There is a trap in the shape of a house.

Forsyth

Traps lure pests with a pleasant aroma. The adhesive composition on the plate does not contain toxic chemicals, is odorless, and can be used to kill cockroaches. Operating temperature is not higher than 30 °C. Shelf life – 4 years.

The level of danger for people is minimal. Can be used in government institutions, food factories, hospitals and clinics.

The plate is taken out of the packaging, the protective layer is removed, and installed in a place accessible to parasites. To increase efficiency, you can sprinkle bait on the glue.

You can check the mousetrap the next day. If the animal does not stick, the next inspection can be carried out no earlier than a week.

Block

A trap made of cardboard measuring 14x29 cm or 14x22 cm, on which polyisobutylene is applied. This is a non-toxic composition without a strong aroma. Its additional components are food flavoring and rubber. For elasticity and fluidity, petroleum oils are poured into it.

To catch a rat, the Barrier plate is removed from the box, the protective film is removed from it and installed in places where parasites regularly appear. To ensure that the mousetrap works effectively, place it in a dry and dust-free place, and pour food for rats and mice into the central part of the cardboard.

The room temperature should not exceed +50 °C and not drop below +5 °C. One trap is enough for an area of no more than 20 square meters.

It is recommended to install several traps at the same time.

Cat attraction and bait

We will not consider options involving poisoning or involving cats. After all, the unpleasant smell of a dead rodent can ruin your stay in the room for a long time. And the cat himself is capable of causing so much trouble and material losses that mice will seem like real angels in comparison with him. Let's forget about buying a ready-made mousetrap in the store. Let's look at how to catch a mouse in an apartment or house using objects used in everyday life.

Bait is one of the most important factors for successfully catching an animal. Contrary to popular belief about a mad love for cheese, it is worth noting that this product is not at the top of the list of preferences of mice. They are much more willing to be tempted by smoked sausage, heavily roasted seeds, lard singed with a match, and only then cheese.

Now directly about fishing. Let's look at several options for building mousetraps at home.

Are there other ways

There are several alternatives to using glue to catch mice. The mechanical one triggers, triggering a mechanism designed to break the pest's neck.

Although they pose a risk of physical injury to children and pets, they are inexpensive and can be reused without inhumane, prolonged suffering. If you have children at home or pets, purchase closed forms.

If killing mice isn't what you're thinking about, humane methods will cost a little more but will allow the animal to be released back into the wild once captured.

Home mousetraps

Method No. 1

We take a liter or one and a half liter jar, a five-ruble coin, a sheet of thick cardboard. It is best to use sausage or lard as bait. We turn the jar upside down, put a treat under it, put a coin on its edge and place the jar on it with one side of the neck. It is advisable to do all this immediately on a sheet so that you do not have to slip it under the jar when the mouse is caught. A piece of sausage or lard should be larger than a coin. When the mouse starts dragging it into its hiding place, the bait will definitely hit the can and the flimsy structure will cover the thief.

You can use a small piece of food. In this case, you need to glue it to the inside of the jar with tape at a height of 5-6 cm from the bottom. Trying to get food, the mouse will rest its front paws on the jar and disrupt the stability of your trap.

You can use a match instead of a coin. In this case, it will be more reliable to tie the bait to a match with thread. The thread should be drawn from the sausage to the match through the side of the neck that is on the cardboard, going around the top of the jar. The mouse will pull the food by the string and pull the match out from under the container.

Method number 2

Pour roasted seeds into a glass bottle of ordinary mineral water and place it at an angle of 25-30 degrees in the place where a mouse is likely to appear. Books are ideal as a base - the animal can easily use them to get to the neck. Don't be confused by the size of the hole - rodents can fit through it perfectly in one direction. They cannot get back out because they slide on the glass. The good thing about this method is that you can catch 2-3 pieces in one container at a time. The neck must be plugged with something before you give the container a vertical position - the mouse jumps high, and if it gets right into the hole, it will easily escape.

Instead of a glass container, you can use a 2-liter plastic container. It is desirable that its walls are smooth without unnecessary bends. The catching recipe is similar to that described above with a small addition. Since plastic is not as slippery as glass, you need to pour a few tablespoons of fragrant vegetable oil inside, and then put the bait. The oil, with its smell, additionally attracts rodents and makes the walls of the container very slippery, which will not give them the opportunity to get out.

Method number 3

We take a newspaper, cover the bucket with it and secure it with tape or rope so that it is well stretched. It will look like a drum. In the center of the newspaper, make a cross-shaped cut about 10 by 10 cm in size. In the area of the cut, sprinkle some roasted seeds. Place the bucket in the place where the mouse was seen. To make it easy for her to climb onto the bucket, you need to provide something like a ladder. A wooden stick or ruler works well for this. The mouse will run towards the bait and fall into the slot. If you first pour 12-15 cm of water into the bucket, the rodent will drown. Such a structure can accommodate several pests at the same time.

Method number 4

Ideal if the mouse gets into the habit of running around the table. In this case, we will need a cardboard tube from paper towels, toilet paper or parchment/baking foil. If the tube is long, then first, using any cutting tool, you need to shorten it to 10-12 cm. Then you need to put any bait at one end of the tube. Place the tube itself on the edge of the table so that the edge with the treat hangs down so much that with a slight increase in weight the tube falls from the table to the floor. Place a bucket half filled with water under the tube. When the mouse climbs into the free end of the tube for bait and runs towards the food, its weight will cause the entire device to fall into the bucket. Attention: if you feel sorry for the animal and do not pour water, then thanks to its jumping ability, it will 100% get out of the bucket unharmed.

Method number 5

All you need is Velcro to catch flies and bait. It is better to securely attach the Velcro to a sheet of cardboard - this will make it more difficult for the rodent to escape with it. If you have Velcro that hangs from the ceiling and hangs in a spiral, then it needs to be glued to the cardboard with two or three strips. Velcro for flies is sold in flat sheets measuring 20x10 cm. In this case, one such sheet is sufficient. A cardboard with Velcro and bait in the center should be placed where the mouse was seen. The adhesive layer on such products is very strong and a stuck rodent will not escape.

Types of glue mousetraps

The glue trap for garden pests has no toxic effect and is used as an addition to other methods of protection. With this method, the number of small garden rodents is regulated, so the effect of application occurs gradually.

The glue board is distinguished by the inclusion of an attractant (a substance that has a strong attracting effect for pests and rodents) in the coating; its use is very high. It is very practical to use - you don’t need to waste time making bait, you just need to choose the right place for the trap and remove the protective layer.

If you use liquid anti-mouse glue to make your own traps or apply it to surfaces, you should take into account the decrease in its effectiveness in frost. The number of mousetraps is calculated as one per 5 square meters. m area.
